The 2023 pro wakeboarding season was set off at sunny Groveland, Florida with the first stop of the Pro Wakeboard Tour just last month. The whole wake community showed up to either ride or support their friends, teammates and favorite riders. New this year, they even have a pro BMX and FMX crew tagging along with the show and they were also pulling off some fun-to-watch tricks. The wake heats were stacked with some amazing riders who threw down many double flips and even some in their contest runs. The envelope seems to be getting pushed further and further every year and it's crazy to see what all these riders threw down.
We had the opportunity to film the event and talk with the Pro Wakeboard winner, Cory Teunissen. Enjoy!
WW: How was the first PWT of the year?
CT: Yeah, the first stop was great. Felt good to get back into the swing of things again and, obviously, very happy with the result! Haha!
WW: How do you feel about the riding level in general compared to other years?
CT: I mean, I definitely feel like the competitive side of wakeboarding is the most competitive it’s ever been. The riding is the most technical and the amount of riders that can win an event is kind of ridiculous now.
WW: How many of these events have you done before?
CT: Bro, I wouldn’t know how many events I’ve competed in, but this is my 9th year on tour I think. Can’t remember.
WW: How did you prepare for this comp?
CT: Yeah, I think my preparation into events is pretty hectic, so just tried to do everything I can to the best of my ability,
WW: What, if anything, will you do different to get ready for the next Pro Tour stop?
CT: Same same.
WW: What other comps are you looking forward to this summer season?
CT: Yeah, there’s a ton of events this summer. I’ve been successful in the Wakeboard World Series the past few years winning two years in a row, so looking to make that a three-peat.
WW: Do you have any changes in your setup you're riding this year?
CT: Yeah, I’m riding my pro model now with Hyperlite. It’s the Capitol, which is sick!
WW: Any sponsor changes?
CT: Shout out to Blenders eyewear this year for coming on board. Been loving working with these guys!
