Gunna get me a new sub but dont know which one? I lean on the JL but not too sure about the foam surround. Do JLs hold up in a boat that stay high and dry?

yes they d. i would deff go with the dub 6

get an image dynamics IDQ, i have one 12 and it bumps!

W6's kill the IDQ's IMO.

W6 is a good sub but would more compare to the wetsound XXX

I would go with the 12W6V2 and not the 10. If you want a JL 10 got with the 10W7.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-05-2008, 10:51 AM Reply
I used to favor JL over everything, they ride on their rep a little bit. Image Dynamics are better subs, It took a while for me to be convinced but I am now. My buddy started with 2 12w6's in his car, then he got rid of them cuz he wasnt happy and got a dub7, didnt like that so he got 2 12 IDQ's and the IDQ's are louder then both and have better sql. Dont get me wrong JL stil makes good products and their subs do bump, but image dynamics is better IMO.

Twitch he probably had the JL's in the wrong enclosures.
Old     (kitewake)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-05-2008, 2:17 PM Reply
I REALLY like my 10W6 in a properly sized sealed enclosure. Very tight.

the dub 6 12 is a good woofer but the idq 12 is crazy.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-05-2008, 3:34 PM Reply
Yeah I was gonna add that in but my fingers got lazy on me, he had his 12w7 in High output enclosure, supposably the best one you could have for a w7.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-05-2008, 3:37 PM Reply
ohhhh your talking about the dub6's right? Im almost posstive they were in a JL enclosure, possibly not though. Has anyone heard the 240z at Systems Unlimited in bellevue? it has 2 8 year old 15in IDQ's in it, and it makes your teeth chatter, no joke, Ive never felt that much bass in my entire life.
Old     (05mobiuslsv)      Join Date: Apr 2006       10-05-2008, 4:28 PM Reply
What do you expect when you put 30" of subwoofer in the hatchback of a car. I sure hope it would make your heart skip a beat.
Old     (c_cote)      Join Date: Jun 2008       10-05-2008, 4:34 PM Reply
i used to have a JL w7 in my car. its a great sounding sub and if you feed it enough power you will shake your boat. my friend has 2 w6's they are great as well. i have blown 3 jl's, long story not my fault except the first one, and now im sporting an mtx
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-05-2008, 6:59 PM Reply
Yeah that was another thing, a w7 will need a lot more power then an IDQ or even an IDMAX.
Old     (ponte_06_x2)      Join Date: Jan 2006       10-05-2008, 9:38 PM Reply
look guys. too me w7's are way over priced to put in a boat. ive been to five boat system contest and none of the boats that won had w7's in them.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-06-2008, 8:37 AM Reply
Yeah thats a good point, wayyy over priced for what you get. You can get 1 15 IDQ for $240. And an IDMAX for $400. Go image dynamics man, they are solid subs, I only have 1 12 and its enough bass for me.
Old     (jv210)      Join Date: Feb 2006       10-06-2008, 9:27 AM Reply
ponte, then tell me how I won the single sub, and beat out all 2 sub boats with only 1 13W7 at tuloch.

^^^^^Because set up right they are nearly untouchable.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-06-2008, 12:55 PM Reply
first of all you had a 13, and for all we know the other boats couldve had 2 10's. Im not saying they dont bump, they do, but I garuntee I could spend wayy less then you and have more bass with image dynamics.
Old     (jv210)      Join Date: Feb 2006       10-06-2008, 1:04 PM Reply
That very well may be possible, there are many good subs on the market that are cheaper. I was just trying to inform ponte that his observation was incorrect. The boats at the comp did not have 10's, and there's not that much difference between a 12 and 13.
Old     (billy2603)      Join Date: Mar 2007       10-06-2008, 2:29 PM Reply
13" is ~17.5% larger (flat surface) than a 12".

I'm guessing the Wetsounds sub does not compare to JL or ID?
Old     (liljohn)      Join Date: May 2007       10-06-2008, 3:33 PM Reply
Billy nice point I like how IDQ wasent on the original posters list but no one here is even talking about that..lol
Old     (aces6692)      Join Date: Nov 2006       10-06-2008, 4:02 PM Reply
actually there is a big difference between 12" and 13" subs. 13 inch subs can push up to 60% more air then a 12
Old     (aces6692)      Join Date: Nov 2006       10-06-2008, 4:05 PM Reply
sorry about the hijack, i personally am a fan of JL, and friend of mine has 2 10 inch dub6's and it is wayy loud, but the w7 is also insanely loud, but is going to take up more space then the w6
Old     (ponte_06_x2)      Join Date: Jan 2006       10-06-2008, 6:27 PM Reply
then tell my why 1 kicker not only smoked your boat by its readings. it smoked other boats with 4 5 or 6 subs. i bet that kicker does not cost a grand. it was a malibu. and it was last year. my only point is that a w7 is way over priced. its a waist of money. like othe rpeople said. a 13 does make a difference.

The malibu pounded I'm not taking anything away from him. And a w7 does not cost a grand! Please tell me was you got in your boat. I believe it has 4 subs, no? what kind of amps you running? I bet you have more money in your system then I do.
Old     (05mobiuslsv)      Join Date: Apr 2006       10-06-2008, 7:21 PM Reply
Ponte there are several reasons why that boat won that comp vs other boats with several subs in different locations. A 15' L7 in a huge box aimed at your nutz will do some damage to a dB meter.
Old     (themxercr85)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-06-2008, 8:10 PM Reply
Exactly, placement is big. L7's a stupid loud, but not very good sql. JL's have sql and loudness but overpriced! ID's are loud and have great sql and for a good price.

Jason sorry i thought you were directing that at me, i looked for "ponte" but didnt see it so i thought you misspelled something sorry not tryin to stab you lol. But a 13 compared to a 12 is a huge difference. at least for my ears it is.

Type in in google Image dynamics vs. Jl audio theres TONS of threads about this topic. I was shown a magazine at an audio shop that has done lots of JL set ups and lots of Image dynamics setups and in this mag It was stated that ID's are better performing subs, there were a lot of specific details the audio specialist they had interviewed pointed out but I cannot remember any of them.

a huge box aimed at your nutz will do some damage to a dB meter. thats funny nu bu. i know. in a boat comp. there still needs to have some fine tuning to get the judging fair for all. true jason. i do have seven arc flat-line subs and 8 arc audio xxk amps. but what a spl meter reads and SOUND QUALITY are two totally different things. the best my boat hit was a 143.9. i heard boats that pound but sound like crap. yeah i prob do. but instead of two 13 dub sevens .i got seven 12 inch flat-line woofers . instead of four arc audio sig series amps. i got 8 xxk amps , and STILL had money left over

jason. if ive learned anything about boat audio comps is. nothing is consistent. you also won the tower comp too right with a few 6 by 9's right? plus like i said. just because it hits hard doesn't mean it sounds good.
Old     (jv210)      Join Date: Feb 2006       10-06-2008, 9:42 PM Reply
How many subs you got in front of the drivers seat?

I didn't win the tower, didn't even compete. You can come on my boat any time and hear my 1 13, and then tell me it doesn't sound good. You got good subs, dont get me wrong, but you cant say speeding a little more is not worth it. You boat is pretty much full of audio equipment, where mine has ALL the storage still left. You spent about the same money as a system half the size using higher priced components, that would probable sound the same.

Ponte, I'm not trying to talk ish, I was just trying to point out that W7 are killer speakers. The flatlines are nice too, I just happen to be running a W7. Flatlines may be in my future, but I will need 2 to compare with the W7

sorry dude. i thought you had the sanger. my bad. i do have two subs under my dash. the thing with the spl mic is that some boat seats sit lower than others. i guess the closer the mic to the woofers the better. bens boat hits hard but his subs are behind the driver seat. so it doesn't read as loud as it should. ohh well. systems are for listening while doing work.

I have one 10W6 in my boat and it POUNDS!!! Has to be heard to be truly appreciated. Can't go wrong when setup correctly.

Ponte I understand that the drivers seat was where the dB reading was taken in that comp. A better place would be standing in the middle of the boat which is probably where they do them now.

I haven't heard the WetSound's XS-12 in a true head to head comp. The Dub-6 is a solid sub and has been around quite a while I have heard them in sealed and ported box's and they sound good and pound pretty hard.

To keep the HyJack going and spin this thread sideways Ill talk some smack. LOL

Jerry seeing how your system was broken at the bump event I still havent got to hear your boat do anything but SPL burp's. All this talks of stereo comp's I think stereo comp's are kind of a joke. No Disrespect to the people putting them on. IMO they don't tell you anything or help you make a choice on whats better or what will work for you.
A stereo comp is a 10 second bass tone. The person that tickels the Spl meter the best win's. Does this mean your system sounds better than the next guy's because you won the SPL comp HELL NO. If you wanna have a Stereo comp why not do somthing like this. Fire up your system so it's bumpin. When I say bumpin I mean you can feel the bass from your boat 3 or 4 boats away,(and it sounds good) Then crack open a beer and look at your watch and see how long you can play for. The guy who plays the longest and sounds the best win's. He gets a Case of beer. And YES we are doing the "Bump Event" again next year bigger and badder. Jerry plenty of time to get your system working.

it was just a battery that was bad and it was draining all the other batteries. i know how busy you were but i did get the system back up and going before the sun went down. so are you saying that" the guy with the system that bumps the loudest and longest is the winner? i hope you dont get into drag racing because its how fast you go not how long your motor last. i learned something a long time ago. some one will always have something better. build it because you like it, not because you want people to like you. in reality. ive heard systems that had entry level stuff that sound dope. so the main thing is that. hook it up right and dont try to over extend your system. if your car can only go 50 mph dont try to make it go 100. unless you up grade.

To answer the original question the Wetsounds XS-12 is a nice speaker. Mine single XS-12 hit over 140db at the spring ride contest. I am running about 500-750 class D watts to it. I like my XS-12, it could probably do even more in a better box. I had a Massive CW-12 in the same box before the Wetsounds, the XS12 was a huge improvement over the Massive.

I had my boat at both the spring ride SPL contest and the bump event. The spl is a short sprint, the bump event was a marathon. I am happy with my system's performance at both events. Playing at about the 75% level my two Kinetic 2400's dropped down into the 11.X volt range somewhere between hour 2 and 3. At that point it got interesting running the boat, hooking up a charger, watching how my combiner reacted, etc. I had to back the system down a little bit to keep things above 12V running off my stock Nautique 100A charging system. It was interesting watching guys trying to keep their systems running when the sun went down after they had been going all day.

Jerry, you system did sound good Sunday morning from across the lake when you were pulling riders.

no guys. i have a all white 06 x2 with a wrap on it. the orange x 2 belongs to a friend that i do business with. his system and mine are similar but his has a bit more stuff then mine. i took the orange boat to the contest too see what it would do. the owner added more stuff but he's not really into the comp thing. thanks mike. i need to listen to your boat next time i see you, but i can tell you one thing. your leds in your boat are dope.
