I am sure he has spent some money with Bully Dog, a company that makes alot of cool parts for diesels. If I were buying a truck today, it would be diesel.

oh man! 11.42?!

He's got a large compressor on that thing, you can really hear it spooling, He ain't doing that with a 20g.

I was at the Cadillac dealer the other day and they said you can upgrade an Escalade from 345 horsepower to 500 horsepower for a mere $12,000! :-) That would be pretty sweet though!
Old    sandman            11-25-2003, 3:32 PM Reply
500 HP out of the 6.0 Escalade can be had for a lot less than $12K. All they are going to do is slap on a supercharger and charge you double what it would cost to have it done yourself ($5-6K). Sounds like a typical dealer.

I was wondering how long before xxxl wake saw this thread. He got a fast truck. Hey how fast could your truck go sean? I know it is not common to drive on a track but how quick to you think it is? I know my crew is pretty quick, have to be carefull when pulling boat very very easy to light-up the tires.

Steven if you are talking to me, the next time I see you at m2r I will let you drive my truck. And you can see for yourself. It is not as quick as 3xl but this winter I want to build it up. I only have 35" tires, but I would like to build the motor up the correct way, not with a computer/chip. It would be nice to have a noz on the truck along with a few more options from Bully Dog. Along with new injectors ect. I only did a chip, 4" dual exhaust all the way back, and a new intake. There is so much more that a person can do the diesel motors these days. I put my truck on the dyno at my dads shop and it put out 377 at the rear wheels.

My truck is putting out 412hp at the rear wheels with out the propane system no idea how much with it. But i am running 37" tires with stock gearing 3.73's. My winter time project was going to be 4.56's but the wife wants to remodel our bath so there goes that project. Jeff I have no idea how fast my truck would run the 1/4 mile but I would guess in the 14-15 sec range. So that tells you how fast that truck really is.
Plus even when I have everything turned all the way up my truck does not leave a smoke trail like that!! I can not imaging the $$$$ that is in that motor & trans.

I put the specs and times in a couple of those horsepower estimator programs and it looks like that rig is pushing somewhere around 850hp.

that guy should try it again with a 4k boat and trailer in tow, JUST to see what the 1/4 times are, you know for kicks!

I actually know that guy. There is nothing on that truck that is from BullyDog. He is running a twin turbo 12 valve Cummins in a 95 F-350. He dynoed that truck at 798 rear wheel horsepower!!! We were at a drag race in Phoenix back in Oct where he ran a 11.6. He just recently ran a 11.24. He is racing again this weekend in Texas so I'll let you all know how he does. Did I mention that this truck is his daily driver that he hauls his 5 kids in.

That's just wrong.

I'm told that Ford owns Cummins.
Old    azpowerstroke            12-04-2003, 7:58 PM Reply
I think Ford used to own some of Cummins, but that was years ago. This guy's truck came with a Power Stroke which he ended up dynoing 603 rwhp. He wanted more power and with that decided to go with the Cummins.
Old    swass            12-05-2003, 5:30 AM Reply
Did he put an engine from a commercial truck in there, or is it just a passenger truck engine?

Is it an auto? It sounds like it.

Swass,

The motor he is using is the ISB Cummins.Although Ford motor company does own Cummins, they have an agreement with Dymler Chrysler not to sell the ISB motor in their light duty p'ups. The Power Stroke motor has been very successful for Ford. They put a ton of R&D behind it, and they saw no need to re power their trucks, and lose the profit they are making off of Dodge/Cummins partnership.

The ISB is also used in many light duty commercial vehicles, International uses them almost exclusively in their smaller tractor units. I have about twenty delivery trucks that are powered by the ISB motor in our fleet at this time.

The ISB motor can go from stock 245hp up to 850hp if you want to spend the money.

Oh... almost forgot, that's an auto tranny behind that motor. I'd be willing to bet it ain't stock either. You'd have to be Superman to go through the gears fast enough to run those numbers with a manual tranny.

Cliff is right, it is a 12 valve Cummins, the same motors that came in the pre-98 Ram trucks. The tranny is a beefed up Ford E4OD automatic.

Tell that to some of the new Powerstroke 6.0 owners out there. Talk about problems.

Bryce,

I've heard horror stories about the new Power Stroke myself. The Ford rep that calls on our west coast locations is telling everyone that the issues they encountered in 03 have been addressed in their 04 model year. I hope they do work out the bugs. I hate to see the Power Stroke name lose credibility.

Ford isn't the only one with issues right now, GM is encountering problems with the heads on the Duramax, and the Allison 1000 tranny has had it's fair share of warranty issues in our fleet as well.

I think Dodge has finally found the right setup with the ISBe/48RE power/tranny combination. I like the fact that Cummins finally went with electronic fuel injectors over the old mechanical style. The new 48RE auto tranny is holding up well so far, and hasn't had any major issues in our system.

Post that comment on turbodieselregistry.com and see what kind of response you get.

p.s. ford does not own cummins

What's the ballpark figure on the mods to this truck?

The guy who backed out of selling me his truck TWICE finally pulled the trigger on an 04 F350 PS.

He traded in his truck for $3000 less than I offered him, and his new truck has stranded him on the side of the highway twice already.

Poetic justice.

GK,

You're correct. I just found out from our local parts dealer that Ford no longer has any ownership in Cummins. My local dealer still sells parts for both Cummins, and Ford so I was under the impression that the partnership still existed.

Swass,

I estimate he's got at least 5k invested in the motor, and at least 3k into the drive train. If he had the work done by a shop, you can add another 3k for labor. I didn't factor in the lift, tires, and rims, if I did you would need to add another 5k.

My 6 liter Powerstroke with a big chip has run perfectly since new in May. I understand only a few had some fuel delivery problems early in the production run.

Do they still use the E40D transmission in the new ones? I have an 01' Powerstroke and have already went through a tranny. Heard many are these are crapping out.
Old    xrated            12-11-2003, 4:57 PM Reply
The new ones use a tranny very similar to the Allison used by GM, Ford claims its not an Allison but it looks acts and drives like one.

the BEST running powerstrokes are the 96-97 straight out of the box. higher compression 21:1 vs 17 and NO wastegate. advertising high horspower sells trucks, but at the price losing the bottom end grunt.
