Can I use food grade silicone on my dry suit seals? or is it the wrong type of silicone? someone told me to stay away from petroleum based silicone. Is this correct? I cant find the word petroleum on the can anywhere, so I'm thinking its ok.
Spray inside and outside the suit on the seals. Store it so sunlight doesn't hit it in a duffle bag and keep the zipper and neck flat or it can get a memory if it is bent. Also when putting the suit on and off tug by grabbing the center part of the seal don't tug in the nylon below or above the seal. You can get Aquaseal at scuba stores and waterski shops. Be sure to spray it on every few trips out and use wax on the zipper too.
I know people who used food grade silicon on their drysuits for years without problems. I haven't done it because I bought the 'Seal Saver' and some zipper stuff when I got my suit a few years back and it will probably last a few more years. I treat the suit 3-4 times a year and keep it in my closet. Store inside your house and not in the garage or attic.
^^^^ Better yet store it in the closet in one of those big ziplock bags. Air and humidity degrade the seals over time so the ziplock clothed bag keeps it protected the best way possible.
