Clarissa, thanks, I know, once we got started, it just all started comming together. We are pretty excited about it. It is going to be extremely sturdy when we get through with it. Deffinetly something that should be good through at least a few years. Josh, thats RFP pannel, its the type of material that is used on the back of some showers and such, alot cheaper than trex. comes in big sheets, and is super slick when wet.

First off Its FRP panel, not RFP, sorry.. Nick, I think it was right around 215 dollars, not too bad split 3 ways. Tyler, lol, ya like those huh? We are using Heavy Duty Liquid Nails..

We did run into one issue that we are going to have to change.. We went with 8ft 4x4s since the water level was originally waist high, We are going to have to take 6 of 4x4s back and exchange them for 10ft ones for our middle section, seeing how the level has risen 2ft.

Looks really nice! One thing to watch out for with that FRP is that the edges can be pretty sharp and could slice you up good if you fall on it! I would bevel it or at least sand the edges down. Nice work, jjakober

Thx for the tip....It is really sharp right now...we plan on sanding it down some....I was thinking it would slice you up good.

That looks sick, I totally agree with Jakober, that FRP has wasted me before! be careful! We used it on a slider and it worked great until it the liquid nails that we to attach it with came of the treated lumber while I was hitting it. The FRB peeled up sliced my toe and leg as it went up, it ened up between my legs, I got slammed on the slider right good and all slice up.

I suggest 3M 5200 adhesive sealant for the FRP. That bond will never fail! I used alot of it when I restored my old boat, not cheap but you can guarantee it will hold. I hope I can build one of these in the near future. Looks really good!

yea ive heard of that stuff shattering after it sitting in the sun for a while and then landing on it with the board over and over again. i think the slider looks great but i do think that the surface material will expire long before the wood frame work

Does the FRP only come in one thickness? Could you sink some screws deep enough into it to help it hold? or is it pretty brittle?

Andy, we used a router on the edges and then came back with the sander.. Very smooth.. Jason, the FRP should work great for us, we wont be using this rail a ton in the hot summer, mostly just in the early season, and if it comes up next year.. well crap, we will spend 30 more dollars to throw sommore on. UPDATE: The rail is finished, took all day long, ran into a few snags along the way, and ended up having to work on it about an hour into the dark.. Hopefully have some pictures up tommorow. not yet the water is only a foot deep right now because they were doing some shore line maintenance and we have about 3-4 more hours of work to add supports and paint and probably wont have enough water for another month (pray for rain!) but im jones'n real bad
