I have 45,000 dollars to spend on a wakeboard boat. Ideally i want something new or used with less than 150hrs. 23ft, good wake, reliable, durable....basically a good quality boat. What's my best bet? I've found a 2007 centurion avalanche c4 w/23hrs for 44,000. good deal or not? please help.
thanks,
Austin

It's not 23 feet though austin. You should be able to get a brand new one for that price. I wouldn't call that a good deal. Depends on your definition of a good wake.

I'd strongly encourage you buying a newly used boat... You can save teh first years depreciation. I am sure there are a ton of boats for sale now in the dead of winter.. I bought an '06 Mobius LSV in Sept with 134 hrs. felt like I got a good deal. In Mississippi, if you buy used person to person, you don't have to pay sales tax again! That is a 7% saving$ WELL WORTH IT! That was $2500 on my boat I did not have to pay!

I say go into the dealer of your choice and make an offer in your price range. If you dont get the answer you want on a brand new boat for that price walk out....they will call you I promise. Thats how I got my boat. Paid 35k for brand new with upgrades and ski equipment.

I should also add that 45000 is an extremely handsome budget. If I had that I would be like ITS... MINE... ALL... NIGHT...

(If you missed that reference please see Idiocracy at your earliest convenience.)

Seriously, 45k is enough to get you the best of the best. It is hardly a "budget" - it is more like an upper limit. Boats that come to mind are Wakesetter VLX's, Super Air 210's and 220s and if you could touch an X30 or X45 I would look into that too. Not sure if thats feasable with 45k but worth researching on ONLYINBOARDS.COM.

With boat show deals...a new Sanger V215 may fall within that range. That was my budget three years ago, and got a loaded one. And I coudnt be happier with it.

You can get a next to new boat for that price range, no need to buy a boat that old.

Totally disagree nu_bu. That much money, even much less, will put him in a super nice boat. I think the modifier "less" is really the key here.

Going used is a very good approach. Fact.

Sorry Erik he won't be getting into an X45 for that price, nice try. By the way I was referencing kal dude's post.

If I had $45,000 dollars I would purchase this 2005 Supra Sunsport 24SSV Priced at $43,000 ! You could probably talk them down a few thousand if you are serious about buying the beastly boat.
You can find plenty of Supras for that amount of money. I just bought my 2004 Supra Launch Gravity Games at a very reasonable price it has 167 hours and every option the mighty dollar will buy ! The best thing for you to do is research every boat that you would consider buying ! Go to a boat shows that will give you an idea of all of the different manufacters !
Good luck with you Future Purchase !

Heres a pic of my SUPRA!Upload

I'm partial to Moomba and Supra but you could pick up a new Moomba Mobius XLV set up nice for $45k. If you wanted to go a bit smaller, there are many great deals on new 2007 21V's out there. I have two myself.

It is way too hard to tell you if that is a good price on that avalanche without knowing the options. For a base Avalanche(tandem trailer, center ballast, manual wakeplate and a cheap cover) that is not a very good deal. You should be able to find a NEW 2007 on closeout for around that price or cheaper. Now, if the boat you are looking at has options like trim tab or switch-blade, side sweep exhaust, rear ballast, perfect pass, board racks, bimini, heater, tower speakers, etc... It could easily be worth that. Like nubu said it isn't a 23 boat. I do think the Avalanche is a nice boat for the money though it has one of the best if not the best rough water ride, it is built really solid(full liner) which makes the boat more solid and gives you deeper storage and has snapout carpet. The wake can be a little touchy becasue it has a deeper V than most inboard boats. Other boats to consider if you want something new or newer is the Calabria ProV(not actually a 23 foot boat but big enough inside to be), Centurion Enzo SV230 or Moomba XLV. If you don't mind going a a couple of years older you can probably find an 03-04 X30 or 04-05 Malibu LSV. Now if you are willing to drop to a 21.5 to 22 foot boat it opens some more options. There is the supra 22ssv, malibu vlx, avalanche, X10, Moomba Mobius LSV and some others. As far as reliability goes they all use similar engines so they are reliable for the most part.

You also have to decide what are the most importants things about a boat to you. Is wake your #1 priority? Is functionality? Is comfort? Is rough water ride?

Just because someone says a boat is the best it may not be the best for you. I personally would rather buy a few year old boat of on of the big three for a few reasons. I think they are better built(my opinion), have better name recognition(good when selling/resale) and they have already taken the biggest hit on depreciation. For example you could buy a 2004 X30 loaded with low hours for around 45k or buy a new moomba XLV for the same price. In three years the Mastercraft is worth over 40 still and the Moomba is worth 35k or so.

You could find a newer used malibu vlx. I sold my 06 vlx last march for 48k. With the power wedge you can adjust the wake to whatever your preference is.

I'll second the option to purchase a year old boat. Let someone else eat the first year depreciation. Craigslist.org might be a good place to look for used boats. Find out what dealer has been doing their maintenance & hit them up for history on the boat.

Also depends on what dealers are in your area. And which ones you are willing to work with. We don't have any Sanger or Centaurian dealers around here. And our Supra/Moomba dealer blows. Malibu & Mastercraft dealers are top notch though. In fact, a couple of the guys from our Malibu dealer frequents this forum all the time, giving advice on issues. I'm finding they take great care of their customers.

44k for the lightly one-year old Avy is pretty good. I think I know which one you are talking about and it's loaded, forget if it had a switchblade or not. A not loaded leftover 23 Enzo will be about 46-48k with good negotiation. You could get a brand new leftover GG 23 Moomba XLV for that money, but I'd stay with higher end boats that are a bit used more and already took the depreciation hit.
I just picked up a loaded with blade Avy with under 20 hrs for 46k. Might have gotten a bit more off but it's all if you feel you got an even deal which I do.
Since alot of boats are so similar, we wanted snap-out carpet and a wide boat. Moomba/Supra/Malibu do not have snap-out carpet. Good luck.

Austin, I'm about in the same situation as you and I've been looking and comparing a lot for almost 1 1/2 yrs now...still cant make up my mind. (also trying to finish paying off my truck first so I can buy a house also to keep the boat at!) However, I believe the best options you have are definately newer used boats. Like an 03-05 Air Nautique, or an 03-05 MC X2, Or one of my personal favs- an 06 or 07 Supra 21V...its got a great wake plus for that price you can probably find one close to fully loaded if not fully loaded with that many hours or less.

Call or email Scott Pellaton and he will bring you what ever you are looking for and arrange for a local Mercury dealer to do the warranty and service work if ever needed.
