i have ridden the new and old style roam and currently have the covenant and i think that the covenant is a little better because it doesn't have quite the serious sidecut that the roam does and also it has a little bit stiffer flex. also ride it as big as you can go. i normally ride a 143 but ride the 150 in the covenant.
Slingshot 142 recoil or 145 response these boards have all the flex you want for all presses and slides on water and rails plus you can use it as a regular wakeboard to. I just got my 08 setup and cant wait to take it out.
Are the Roam and Covenant board that you can use for wake to wake tricks like spins and flips? I was not sure so that why i went with the best of both worlds and got the wake to wake flex board.
I got a 137 Byerly a 139 Fusion... and I made the mistake of getting too small a board in the Roam. I got the 139 and I'm 5'10". I'd go bigger for sure
i would ride the biggest size possible and widen the bindings as far as they could go so itd feel more like a snowboard. Also im taller than 6ft so that is also a reason for the big size. I dont know but a bigger board would seem like you would be able to do flex moves a little more in control. I ride an 05 roam in my spare time and it is a 144. I would definitely say that a bigger board would prolly be better for what I use the roam for.
jruss i ride the roam as my only board and have a few mobes in my bag so yes it can be done.
as far as sizes go deffinately go with at least the next size up from what you would normally ride. the last wakeboard i rode was a 138 so im riddin the 144.
Jruss, if you can do spins and inverted tricks on your wakeboard you should have have no problem on the roam. My son has one he uses at OWC and plays around with on super butter days and can land all his wakeboard tricks on it. It's a little slippery on the landings until you get use to it.
