I need wake pictures and reviews because my dad doesnt think it has a good wake.

right... you'll find stuff in a search for 'nautique' and '2001'. I'll put my wake up against many of today's wakeboats. It's flat out sweet when weighted.

Those pics are weighted with about 1200lbs and one person in the boat @ 75'. I'm now putting 1800lbs with 3 people in the boat and it's out of this world.

Oh, man. Hands down - 1982 - 1989 Ski Nautique 2001. If anyone argues, they haven't ridden behind one with 1500 lbs. in it. Prices are going up due to the quality wake these boats put out. It's steep, well built and can be ridden 80' out. Drawback - small inside, but hey - no boat payment!

Your dad might be refering to the ski wake. The SN2001 doesn't have quite the slalom wake the Prostars do. Seems to be the other way around when talking about boarding wakes.

It's still a good slalom wake though. The slalom wake will suffere more than some other boats though when you start really loading it up with people. But if you have just a driver and a spotter then the slalom wake is great.

My Dad and his friend bought 1988 Ski Nautiques at the same time and both still have them. (Both slalom ski and are crazy good at it. They used to both compete.) The dealership has offered to help them upgrade but in the words of my Dad's friend, "Why would I get another boat? I already have the perfect boat."

All that plus a killer wakeboard wake. I have been on V-Drive wake boats made since 2000 that do not compare to the SN2001. I run two side sacks on either side of the engine and no weight in the back. The wakeboard wake is great for me.

I dont care about slolom. My dad said that cause the boat wasnt made for wakeboarding so how could it put out a good wake.

It may have been pure luck, but someone (I think it was Mikeski) had a 2001, and bought a new SAN. Had picks of the two sitting side by side. The back/ bottom look almost identical. The SAN is arguably the best boarding wake out there, so that is saying something.

Similar to the PS205 turning into the V205/ X-Star/ X2/ X1, which started as a slalom boat, that ended up with an excellent wakeboarding wake.

the 2001 wake when weighted right is very much the same as a san.

Crappy photo, but you can see the wake shape. Just to let you know how big the wake can get, we had 10 people in the boat plus some fat sacs. and my friend had to sit on the bow to get on plane. Hopefully the acme 542 will cure this, but the wake was huge. I can't wait to actually ride it with that much weight.

That is not the wake with 10 people and ballast. That picture is with 5 people and about 700lbs of water.

542 will fix it.

Haha, you aren't kidding.

Basically, one person in the driver's seat, 3 people sitting on the deck of the boat on each side, and 3 more in the back. That was also when we didn't have a tower. So add 5 boards in that crowd. We ended up having to drop 2 people and the boards off on the shore and let them wait untill people finished their rides.

The reason I believe you can make such good wakes out of slalom boats is because the boats are designed to rise themselves out of the water when on a plan. At least that is the idea the designers have in order to reduce the wake size. Less boat in the water, smaller the wake. When you sink one of these boats an extra 5"-6" by putting weight in something that is trying to force itself to run ontop of the water, you will displace alot more water underneath the boat. This results in the larger wake.

I don't have any pics of the wake of my old '86 SN 2001, but, like many people above have said, with 1500-2000 lbs of ballast and a 542 prop, that wake was awesome. Definitely the best wake of any boat I've owned.

i agree with you craig. the same hull that makes a small wake at higher speeds will ironically make a very LARGE shapely wake at lower speeds with weight. the hull is designed to push the boat out of the water at high speeds. slow it down and weight it a bit, and you see the force that the hull creates in its wake.

Yea, I think it is funny that the 2001 is even thought of having a good ski wake. Even with no ballast and like 2 or 3 people, the 30mph wake still has some steepness to it. Nothing like my malibu response that creates an almost slopeless hill of water.

The boat was intended really for the trick skiers of the day. You want a flat wake from the era buy a MC stars and stripes boat
