What do you think of the carbon handles?

1. Are they any good? Or they are over rated?
2. Will they break?
3. Which brand do you recommend?

Also, they are so expensive for a handle but I guess it is a high end product, will you give it a try if it was a $60 handle?

Thanks.

1. overrated (they will not improve anything about your riding one ounce). They hurt, they crack, then they sink, foam isn't as cushy, they're overpriced. If they made a big difference, riders would be using them.

2. yes (worked in a pro shop... saw LOTS of these come in broken)

3. Proline. Better yet: Helium composite handle (super light, semi-rigid, won't crack, will float)

I would not buy a carbon handle for $60 (except to re-sell on e-bay).

Plus, it will chip your board when it hits it. I was going to buy one until a buddy that had one told me this.

1. Pros and cons, but I love mine. They make me feel more solid when I am riding, hanging on to a solid handle. Cons: when you are doing lessons, or just throwing the handle to someone in the water, DO NOT HIT THEM... it hurts to get hit in the head by a carbon handle.
2. My camp had 4 or 5 and I never saw one break... but I am sure it could happen. I wouldn't imagine it would happen any more than a regular rope handle, if not less.
3. SL Carbon kicks ass. I loved the Eclipse :-)
