I have an 82 Nautique. Not meant to be a wakeboat but it does a pretty good job and it was in the price range that I was looking for.

If you're happy with your ride, don't ever go to the find a pull section and go behind something else

I have been wakeboarding behind a jet for years. We have 2 jets with towers in our group where we go. The wake is ok. I am the first in the group to break away and get a wake boat. Based upon the reactions to the group they are looking forward to the spring time riding. Here is the new ride http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/index.php?page=out&id=2264

"less than friendlies"...yeah , don't post a less than perfect picture that's for sure. started with a bass tracker, then a 18 ft i/O, then a sport nautique and now a Super Air 02 team. that covers about 18 years of wakeboarding.

I have grown up behind a 21' wellcraft excell. It has a 302 with a volvo penta stern drive. It is a "modified" V hull, so it puts out a descent(compared to a centurion avalanche with half full internal ballast) wake with no weight. It is kinda steep, but I love it. It has a skylon too. I mostly skate now, but grew up boarding, and skiing before that. As for ski wake, don't even try. The two issues I see with it are the stern drive prevents surfing. It has a very narrow beam(width?). Handles great at speed, and in Powell main channel chop. But the wake is not as wide as most, so when I ride behind ski or wake boats, I look like a tool cause it takes a few try's to clear the wake. Spent all summer behind various 18' rentals at powell. Equiped with 140 hp out boards(mercury), that are ok motors, when they start. p.s.(I love perentheis(sp?))

I stated out behind a 78' Bayliner 10 years ago. Some of the best times on the water with friends and makeshift ballast. Since then upgraded to a 79' Ski Naut and now a 02' Tige 20V. It does not matter what you ride behind as long as your having fun. As you get older and hopefully you start making more $$ upgrade!

Hey Jon (jon4pres), I remember seeing your boat and tower on some other site and remember some jerk saying he was some kind of hot shot engineer and your tower was going to kill everybody in the boat because the tow point was to far back. And that the front mounts were going to pull out of the fiberglass. I wanted to yell at that guy. People like that make me furious. That guy was a complete CHOAD. I love your tower, looks like it took a lot of engineering to get it to lay down the way it does. In 2007 it looks like quite a few towers lean way back without any supports. Glad to see that your tower is still standing.

Cobalt 232, IO w/ 454... I don't think I would trade it for a wakeboat... Now a days we do more beer drinking than wakeboarding anyhow...

J-Craft ski boat with a 200hp outboard. Not much of a wake but it definately gets me started. I get out behind my in-laws i/o and the wake feels huge. Sometime in the near future I hope to have a true inboard in my possesion.

I'm in a 19' I/O right now. I've built a pylon for it and we use about 200lbs-1000lbs of weights/ballast. I'm probably going to get some trim tabs soon so I can put more weight in the rear. Before that, I had a 77 Ebbtide Tri-Hull with a 120HP outboard. I really miss the maintenance on the outboard compared to the I/O but the wake is much better. When the wake specific boats come down in price a bit, I'll probably buy one. Sales are growing and costs are rising enough now there is bound to be a bust in the near future.

I like I said grew up on an i/o. We usualy beach the boat somwhere, let off the dog(s) and set up shop. This is why we use our trim on our lower unit. Does beaching become a problem with a dd or v drive? Do you have to tie off a few feet out and wade in? That would be a big hurdle to me wanting a dd or v drive. sorry to hijack.

Brett, We've had an I/O for the past 3 years. It worked well for us at the time cost and size wise (to fit in the garage)- plus we were more skiers, never having wakeboarded before. We like our I/O but having ridden behind a V drive there is a definite difference! (duh!) Here's our boat.

Chris, Depending on how high your trim can go, alot of times dd and v drives can go in shallower water. A lot has to do with the degree of steepness the beach has, but most of the time the fins will be clear when the front beaches.
