See the problem is you go to Florida and you realize by some stroke of luck the whol thing hasn't sunk yet. It's very close to that and there is literally water everywhere. I remember riding with Kyle Schmidt and on the ride to Orlando he was like "hey there's the second tallest mountain in Florida", being from California all I saw was a small hill, about the size of the one in my backyard. Maybe a two minute walk. If you are in Florida you live in a swamp and all the lakes are connected. It gets rough on one and you cruise over to the next one. There are a few around the country that many frequent, like Canyon Lake and I'm sure all self respecting pros have ridden Powell & Shasta at least once. Find where they live and you will find where they ride.

theres gators in pretty much every lake.
general rule of thumb: no riding in dark hours, stay away from swampy areas(the areas u dont wanna take your boat)

ya surf you risk the sharks, you wakeboard in FLA you risk the gators

did the entire beginning of Big Heavy's comment seem incredibly random to anyone else? Mountains? Florida sinking? I found it comical...lol.

random? nah,I followed exactly what stephan was saying.

Maybe i am just a northwest rider who is naive to the florida scene, but if there are gators in every lake...are there lots of incidents with wakeboarders? Im just curious cause I heave never really heard of one.

Gators are more scared of the boat and of people in the water. They mainly feed at night anyway.

I love how everyone assumes that because you are in a Florida lake you are going to get attacked by a gator. I have grown up on the lakes here in Florida and not once have I ran into a problem. Now, there are some lakes I would NEVER get in and those lakes are not around the city and no one lives on them. Hahn is right though, they run from the boat and the sight of people. Just stay out of the water after dusk and heavily wooded/swampy areas.

Thanks. Well I dont know about everyone else, but I wasnt assuming, just asked cause I have never really thought about it before since Ive never got a chance to ride in FL.

We have a ton of gators in Texas in almost every lake that love eat wakeboarders, they really come out when the water is smooth.

I believe it's called Jessamine, Toby.

I hear what Stephan is saying...Florida hasn't sunk yet in the same paranoid logic that makes me wonder why Cal hasn't broke off and become an island yet due to the fault lines. Makes perfect sense, cough, cough.

Did you guys hear about the global warming crisis?

there were 3 gator attacks in central florida last year, 2 were fatal. both that were fatal were in canals, no boats were around for any of them.
saw it on the news a couple of weeks ago.

just stay away from lake jesup, thats where they put the central florida "problem" gators. and lake monroe has some big gators too, suprisingly enough, ill probably be riding there this weekend.
one of my friends dad said that if u go to monroe during the week and just pull up by the beach, there will be 10-14 foot gators just sitting there.
and yea, you're right, they all ride on hiawasee. i also saw rusty and danny harf on the clermont chain a few weeks ago in rusty's pimped out xstar. u can tell its his cause theres a big fox graphic on the side.

I spent a month in Florida last winter wakeboarding almost every day and didn't see a single gator. I also heard then that they've been putting the problem gators in Lake Apopka.

I live in Orlando and wakeboard on the St Johns river bi-weekly..

YUP! Gators everywhere.. cool lookin suckers..

Am I scared? Not at all.. you know by the time they are big enough to do any damage they have been around for at least 10-15 years.. by then they also know that boats SUCK.. they don't wanna get hit anymore than you want them eating you. First of all, they pretty much stay out of the main channel, and second.. when they hear that vibration they take off.. and you have to figure that you are behind the boat and they swim fast... so even if you fall by one, you have a screaming motor boat 50' in front of you and by that time they are LONG gone..

Worth the price :-)
