The Alberta Wake Tour is including wakesurfing as a discipline for the first time and I have been in consultation with one of our local riders who has attended Worlds and is very passionate, knowledgeable, and involved with the growing discipline.
We have been having some healthy debate on one area of competition that likely results from my bias to wakeboarding rules and how I interpret the CWSA and INT Rulebooks. Our local wakesurfer is trying to get a hold of some of the officials she has worked with at Worlds and I thought I would throw it out here as well to see if there is anyone that I might get in touch with to seek some clarification on an area of the rules specific to boats.
We do have some challenges at the local /development level and these include the need to merge divisions. With 5-10 estimated surfers we plan to merge surf and skim and men and women into 3 skill divisions. I understand that it may not be ideal and hope that we will be able to expand our divisions in the future. As with any competition I am equally tasked with expanding my divisions if more participants show up.
