I know a lot of people will say "just buy new ones" but as a college student on a budget I can't afford to get new pumps so I am rebuilding my rusty Simmer Blue Water ballast pumps. I have taken them apart and sanded both the permanent magnets and the brushes.

I am at the point of reassembly and am wondering if I need to do anything else to make the pumps run like new. should I lubricate anything? I want them to self prime properly and I don't know what causes these pumps to be self priming? Basically I need to be educated on these pumps.

Thanks

they are impeller driven pumps, they self-prime because they pump both air and water. They are also positive displacement pumps. Meaning that water can't bypass the pump when its not running. Make sure you put a new impeller in when you assemble, lubricate the obvious areas and you should be good to go. (I think the yellow impellers are the ones to get. Not sure as I don't have any impeller pumps...)

make sure it runs properly in fwd and reverse before closing it all up. (you could probably search for Simer pumps or the like for more info. Jabsco also makes these pumps and is a little more known.)

Thanks Nacho,

They have black impellers that are in great shape so I don't plan on replacing them but I will lubricate them. I am hoping they will run better with some lubrication and a good sanding because they had a hard time priming this summer and became a huge pain in the A
