Nintzel or Jakober know what the "price" is going to be on the street? I am talking about websites, not board shops.

Sick, Sick, Sick...Thats what I have to say about the Decade. It's really hard to describe it, all I keep coming up with is SMOOTH. The board is just so right, speed, pop, landings, all the things everyone says is so great about every other board is all I can say about this board. I can tell you how great it is, but thats just me telling why I like it. If you are looking for a new board, then check it out. I think many of you will really like it. Keith, Not sure on the price, but I will find out. Tyler, You like the Coda, I think you will like the Decade. David, The beveled edge makes the board more forgiving and reduces the chances of catching an edge, it also makes the board more durable on sliders. Nick, It is in production now, but I would think the bulk of them are destined for the southern hemisphere, then the states, but I might be wrong.

A beveled edge also makes that section of the board ride higher in the water. Basically a thicker edged center and thinner tip/tail makes the board ride with a more nose up attitude. I'd argue it's more for that reason than catching an edge.

Thanks. Have a few more questions since it's hard to even demo any O'Brien board here in Sacramento, CA. 1) How was the pop compared to the Coda? Was it easier/predictable to pop? 2) When edging, which board responded quicker? Code or Decade? 3) How long are the molded fins and what size center fin is the Decade using? 4) Will this board be O'Briens Pro board or Advanced board? If it's taking over the Natural, it might be the Pro level board. 5)Is it a three stage? What is the rocker size? Sorry for all the questions and if they have already been asked. I am sure there might be a few others that might want to know.

I like my Coda 141 a lot, but it's a bit small. I really like my Natural 144, but it tracks just a bit harder than I prefer. I really like the Valhalla 143, but it's not quite as responsive as I would like. I'm hoping that this will be a perfect middle ground .

David, 1) I think the Decade popped more and was more consistent then the Coda. I think the increased width throughout the board really helps it have a consistent pop. 2) When you say "responded quicker" it depends what you mean. I think the Coda rolls on edge quicker because it is narrower, but once on edge and cutting to the wake they are both very fast, with low drag. I think I would have to ride each board back to back to figure out which one is quicker, and even then I think it would be hard to tell. I think O'Brien makes the quickest 3 stage boards on the market. 3) The molded in fins are about 10.5” long & 0.7” deep. The center fin is a 0.7" Spine, but I rode it without, and I thought it was perfect. 4) This is Daniel Watkins new Pro model(10 years with O'Brien). The Natural will move down the line as an advanced board. 5) The board is 3 stage. Here are the specs:

nice review JJ. Maybe everyone can get off of obrien's nads when it comes to base features. They're obviosly on to something with fast 3 stage boards.

Nacho, I agree it blows me away how many people think these are just gimics. Far from it! They work, the Delta Base makes the 3 Stage boards Crazy fast. I think the whole industry is moving away from Gimics, thank god!

Dude -that is so cool you rode that board...as of right now they are only hand made and there are only 4 of them in exsistance! Last night I got my hands on one of the new skates -the new line is SICK and unlike anything on the market right now!! O'Brien is really stepping up!

I rode with JJ last night and he was pretty psyched on the board. So much so that he got me on it too. I'm a good 250# and my board is an 03 Parks 143. This decade was 139. In the end I will say that I'm definately interested in the 144. It was really hard to describe. It felt locked down but I could break loose with no effort when I wanted to. It was super smooth all around, going into turns and on landings (even for my big butt). It was definately faster than my tank of a board. The pop was a little hard to get used to coming from the Parks. The decade has a nice 3-stage that isn't nearly as abrupt as the Parks. More mellow but still a lot of pop when you hit it correctly. JJ hit it on the head, Smooth. Definately interested in seeing the bigger board. Thanks again for coming out Jason, that was treat and definately a good time. Your welcome to come out anytime

Jakober, I just rode my new Decade with the Watkins closed toe binders last night. It was unreal! The stance options threw me for a bit of a loop to begin with, but once I put them all the way out, it was sweet. There is Zero toe and heel lift, and my toes didn't get smashed at all. The beveled edge is very forgiving when your are buttering around on the wake, but yet quick enough to respond coming onto edge that I didn't feel it lagged at all. Did you ride it with the fins or without? I rode it finless, and it felt about as loose as the vallhalla when rode finless. Overall, Chris did an amazing job on this shape and I am super stoked to be shredding it this fall.

Ty, No fins! TBAS, I think you really will like the Decade coming from the Coda. Hopefully we will get together and you can check it out. Shawn, I have been riding the Coda 141 for the last couple of months and as far as the size difference between it and the Decade 139, I really didn't notice any difference. We're only taking about 2cm overall. I have ridden the Natural for 3 years and the Coda for a couple of months, and I feel the Decade is a perfect blend between the 2 boards. I took it for a spin again tonight, it's very cool (Message edited by jjakober on September 17, 2008)

J Jakober, how do you think of the Decade compared to the Natural regarding the weight? I read someplace that Decade had the impact-base which normally would make the board a bit heavier. Also, how are the new closed boots in terms of weight?

Andy, I didn't notice any difference in the weight of the Decade compared to the Natural. The Decade will be available with and without the impact-base. The board I rode did not have it. I have ridden O'Brien boards with the impact-base in the past and it adds a little weight, but not anything I noticed when riding. I know they have refined the impact-base and it is thinner and lighter then the one they used in the past. As far as the boots go, they are very light. I don't have any numbers for you, but for something with so much material, it's amazing how light they are.

According to my sources, D. Watkins says that this is the board he has been waiting for his whole life. He more proud of the this board than any of his other pro models. "it's prefect," DW says. As for myself I never thought I would get away from the player to a different design but this board is the shiat!

The board looks amazing. I'm riding the Valhalla and absolutely love it, but all this talk about the Decade has me wondering if I should make a switch. In terms of spelling, they should really spell check those facts, it has "coconut" on there as "co****".

$620.00 I don't think so. O'Brien has never had an MSRP that high. The Naturals MSRP last year was $480.00 so I would guess the Decade will be somewhere around there.

ok. Im lookin at the price sheet now. A Decade blank w/o impact base is 600 even. w/ impact base is 660. add decade bindings. 840 across the board. Keep in mind that these are MSRP prices. As i am looking through the price book. I am finding what must be errors. so if this price is a error, i will let yall know.

Did the decade feel like it had more pop than the natural? I love how easy it is to go into the flats with my natural but get much more pop out of my murray. I think this decade will be the perfect blend.
