Saw another thread about wakeboarding methodology, so I thought it fitting to make a thread just about methods. For those of you who make methods look good: what is your method? I've always wanted to be able to throw this trick well, but even with good rope control, I look like I just landed my first grab everytime I do it. Fugly!

naw its fine here. I always post my trick q's here. There is a method to the Madness of the "Method." First thing you need to do is work on Flexability, It takes some flexable legs and back to get a method to look sick. Thats Lesson #1. Its a hard trick to practice that's for sure, you need line tension and solid handle placement to get them down. Once you get them, take them to blind that is my favorite trick to do, nothing makes a good wakeset like a BLASTED Method to blind off the Dub! (Message edited by andy_nintzel on June 29, 2009)

Andy do you really land blind (wrapped, or two hands on handle?) or do you pass the handle? Sounds tough to be looking over lead shoulder for method, then over trailing shoulder for the handle pass.

WakeMikey, I land Blind. When you do a Method if you really tweak it towards the boat you are half way to blind anyway. Do the Method, Make it LEGIT! Get your front hand back on the handle and turn your head blind, you really have to focus on squaring up your shoulders and hips to get a clean landing. We are going on a film trip in a few weeks I will get one off the dub on film and post it.

I'm with Garret. I love them on a skateboard off a kicker, but they just don't feel right off the wake for me. They feel forced, but now I'm gonna try some more tomorrow. Don't know about going to blind. Can't wait to see that on video, Andy.

IMO a method is easier if you take it to FS 180. For some reason I can really get my methods tweaked when I twist them up then uncork it to FS 180.

I had never thought about taking the method to BS180. I have those down solid, so I'll give one a shot tonight! I can do the uncorked fs 180 like M-Dizzle said, and they feel really cool, but who the hell knows how that looks. Like I said before, a lot of times, my methods look like accidents. Any other good tips on how to approach/where to look or whatever?

I only get like 1 good one every 5 or 6 tries. People in the boat say they look good but im a perfectionist on this one. Its kind of a scooping motion when coming off the wake. The entire bottom of the board needs to be facing the boat. This trick is harder than a ton of spins and inverts to do correctly. Spin almost like you are gonna do a bs 180 but stop once you get the grab. There is an Ok one I got a photo of in my profile. (Message edited by eyekahn on June 30, 2009)

Its all handle position. Keep it in tight and low on the approach almost like you would for a TS Spin. Once you get the grab pull the board aroud to make it SUPER Tweaked and Steezey. Its hard to practice on a tramp because Line tension is a major factor in landing the trick. I would practice the position you want to be in floating in the water. Also, a lot of people switch hands on the rope back to the front hand to help square up the landing, its good practice too if you wanna take them to blind. I like to take them to FS 360 as well, its pretty scarey the first few times, but after the first one you committ on its not so bad.

Like Andy said, handle position is really important. It's hard to rotate your hips around if the handle is high and far away from your body. You can see a good rope position in the shot above.

I went out today, and tried a ton of methods. One thing that really cleaned up that trick for me is weighting my front foot just a bit more than usual. I think it made it easier to get over the board for a level-looking grab.

I like a good Method, I just wish it wasn't so hard to get em perfect!! This is about as close as I can get. My buddy does a method like this and then takes it to FS 180, pretty BA in my book..

I can't seem to tell my back leg to push out. Maybe it's a brain functioning problem. I have the grab and a little of it, but when I don't push my back leg out ever, I can't call it a method.

Got a screencap from some video my buddy was shooting. I think it's coming along, but I still need to get more over the board, and poke the back leg a lot more.

Here's mine, not the best but I'm satisfied with the way they look. I focus on what i call my backside edge. I pretty much made it up. It's kind of like doing a progressive edge but doing your hardest edge into the trough and flattening off going up the wake basically doing what most people would do for a backside spin.
