Was out last thursday night messing around, missed a double and somehow came down with all my weight on my toes. I believe I had both knee's locked when I landed. Was really an easy fall but horiffic pain. Had to have help out of bindings, pain went from left knee to ankle then lower leg went numb. Got back on land and had pain when weight was put on it, then right leg felt similar. Doctor not sure what's wrong, said he could feel start and stop of the cl's in both knees, xray's looked good, but steal great deal of pain in left knee and high ankle while trying to walk, right knee just sore when extended fully. Knees feel fine while slightly bent but hurt when straight or bent past 90degrees. Any idea what I'm looking at, just hyper extension?

Sounds like a bad Hyper Extension. If the Xrays were clean and the Doc can feel the start and stop of the Cls then thats what its sounds like, but I am no Doctor. Ever thought of getting a second opinion? Even Doctors miss things some times.
Hope you start feelin better!!

Thanks Jeff, Yea Doc didn't seem to concerned. I had an MRI lined up for this past Sat. but woke up and right knee was a little better and left was about the same , so i canceled. They said it would be over a month to get the results any ways since they were so backed up? Doc was an Ortho. specialist who has treated a couple other family members and they turned out ok. Weird thing was no swelling, bruising or soreness to the touch, other than ankle? Guess time will tell.

did something like that with my ankle, walked with a limp for a few days then one day I woke up and everything was fine. but my family is one that will avoid doctors at all costs

What have you done? Screwed yourself, hahaha, sorry.

Hyperextension sounds good. But also a couple other things. Stress fractures often dont show up on X-rays and they can hurt like a bitch. A ruptured periost (not sure if periost is the right word in english), that can feel like a break. there's no real way of that showing up on a scan. and there's just plain bruising. again hurting like a bitch.
or you could be like me and have all of the above, hahaha.
Hope you get better quick!

I hear ya Dustin, I'm anti Doctor as well! If the Wifey hadn't gone i'd probably been fighting. If not for the ol' "straighten your legs", or the "take a few steps for me", or for having to beg for crutch's! You'd thought I was a bother to them?

kristian....just fyi...you were referring to the periosteum which is a thin covering attached to all bones. Shin splints are caused by the periosteum tearing away from the bone. This usually happens in the tibia (shin bone)

Mike...get the MRI if it still bothers you. If there is something serious that has to be dealt with immediately, they will give the results sooner. Good luck. Hope you are riding soon.

well mine tore from just a bad impact no shin splints occured. and yes it was my tibia (and also my fibula), but it is a possibility just about anywhere. I'm only throwing idea out there.
