Wakeboarder Will Green Passes

Share

Will Green23-Year-old wakeboarder Will Green, a member of the 2015 USA Wakeboard Collegiate National Champion University of Florida wakeboarding team, passed away last Monday evening as a result of injuries sustained while doing a wakeboarding doubles demonstration as a wakeboard instructor at Cohutta Springs Youth Camp in Georgia. The Cohutta Springs Youth Camp provides youth a safe Christian setting for friendship, recreation, wholesome living and spiritual growth. Will was an instructor at the camp the last few years and extremely dedicated to the kids he taught.

Reports are that Will was doing a back roll while another rider did a Raley over the top of him when Will's head collided with the board of the other rider. Although they had performed the stunt before for the kids at the youth camp, something went terribly wrong this time.

Dixie Smith, president of the University of Florida wakeboard team, remember's him: "Will really loved wakeboarding and really loved this camp and it's good to know that that's where he was taken. And now he gets to be with God, whom he loved so so much, more than anything else, so I know he is at peace. And I think it's clear that he passed as a legend and a lot of people's hero."

Will was ranked #3 in our 2014/2015 Collegiate Wakeboarding’s Top 10. The author of our annual survey of collegiate wakeboarders and fellow collegiate wakeboarder from Arizona State University, RJ Pabon, said, "Will was one of the most genuine wakeboarders I know. He loved the sport and had a passion for pushing others to get better, but, most of all, making sure they had fun doing it. You could not have a bad time while hanging out with Will because he was just a very happy guy who is enthusiastic about everything. I did not know him for a long time, but the time I spent with him is very memorable and will not be forgotten. We lost a legend, but gained an angel who will be watching over us and wanting us to push the sport and the message of Christ as he did."

The Green Family has initiated the "Live Like Will" Fund, a scholarship to support the participation of young people in the Cohutta Springs Youth Camp. Thoughts for the Green Family can be posted on Will's obituary page. #livelikewill
