Share

2015 Evolution Pro SeriesLAKE ALFRED, Fla. – The World Wakeboard Association (WWA) announced that the Malibu Sparks Pro will host the first round of the 2016 Malibu Evolution Series at Sparks Marina in Sparks, Nevada on July 1-3. This year marks the second annual running of the popular series and is known for bringing riders to first-class venues across the globe behind its world-class boats, such as the M235. The marina contains one billion gallons of Malibu Sparks Prowater spread across the 77-acre lake, ultimately making it a hotbed for watersports activities. The event will also serve as the third round of the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) presented by Rockstar.

"It’s going to be an unreal weekend for the first WWA Fourth of July weekend event," said Shannon Starling, WWA President. "The Malibu Sparks Pro is dedicated to providing a family-oriented environment for spectators of all ages, while wakeboarding and wakesurfing’s best athletes compete for a first big win in the 2016 Malibu Evolution Pro Series overall race."

The performance driven wake behind the all-new revolutionary Malibu M235 towboat will provide the sports brightest stars the opportunity to continue raising the bar. The Malibu Sparks Pro will begin with wakeboard and wakesurf qualifying on Friday, followed by semifinal and quarterfinal elimination heats on Saturday, which will serve as a preview for the final rounds of competition on Sunday for both disciplines.

Malibu Sparks Pro"I’m looking forward to spending Fourth of July weekend with family and friends at the Malibu Sparks Pro," said Elite Malibu Athlete Oli Derome. "The Evolution Pro Series stops are my favorite events of the year and it’s going to be rad competing against such a talented lineup of athletes and riding behind the awesome wake of Malibu’s M235."

Malibu has added both Pro Men and Women Skim and Surf divisions to this stop of the Evolution Pro Series to showcase the world’s best men and women wakesurfers on Malibu’s world-class surf wake featuring Surf Gate. The Wakesurf portion of the event will also be a Platinum Level event on the World Series of Wakesurfing.

The city will also be hosting a firework show Sunday night that encourages riders, families, and spectators to attend in celebration of Fourth of July weekend.
