Summer is Back in Washington

Share

INT League WashingtonSEATTLE, WA - The first amateur watersports event of the season will take place April 25-26 in Lewis County, Washington. The southwest corner of Washington State is actually home to many private watersports lakes, including this event site, Koppert Lake in Toledo, Washington. The lake will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, and free for spectators.

The event will feature wakeboard, wakeskate and kneeboard competition on Saturday, and a two round waterski competition on Sunday. Skiers and riders will be coming from all over Washington, Oregon, Vancouver and Idaho to participate. It is the first in an INT League tour of events in Washington and Oregon this summer.

The competition is separated into ability based divisions with some age and gender breakdowns. INT offers beginner through pro level divisions. Each rider or skier will compete against people of similar ability level. Kids, moms, dads, college students, working professionals, retirees and more will all be out at the lake to celebrate the beginning of summer by jumping on their board or ski, rain or shine.

Anyone can enter to ride or ski in the competition. There are novice level classes for people who have just learned to wakeboard or ski. However the beginners will share the starting dock with very experienced athletes throwing pro level performances as well! It makes for an exciting day at the lake, cheering on those who are just learning one minute, and watching a rare expert performance the next!

Event participants just need to bring their board or ski, and life jacket. Ropes and handles will be provided by Proline. The best watersports specific boats will be at the event to pull the tournament including Malibu, Axis, Nautique, MasterCraft, Tigé, Supra, Moomba, Centurion, and Supreme.

Washington and watersports have a long history. Many of the most well-known waterski and wakeboard brands were developed right here in our state. You may be thinking, why not Florida or California? They have better weather, but Washington is a hot bed of innovation. Most of us think of the tech or aerospace industry when we think about Western Washington’s innovative history, but the water sports industry is also a huge page of the inventive culture in the Northwest.

The INT League was started in 1993 in Washington with its first event on Seattle’s Greenlake. The League has grown to include a tour of events in over 17 states or regions. INT stands for International Novice Tour and its mission is to grow competitive watersports in a fun and non-intimidating environment.
