Wakeskater Matt Manzari recently suffered a terrible accident while he was trimming trees for his church. Matt came in contact with a power line and was electrocuted and suffered third degree burns to his arms, chest, neck and face. He was rushed to the hospital and was sedated and intubated immediately. The first 48 hours were rough as the doctors were very concerned about how his heart would hold up from such a shock (estimated 7,000 volts) and how his kidneys would hold up from the damage to his muscle tissue.
Despite all of the odds and likelihood that Matt would be an amputee, have heart problems, kidney failure or just die all together, he just keeps on pushing forward and making progress towards getting better. He is in the burn trauma unit and will remain hospitalized for an extended time for additional surgeries and skin grafting. Matt continues to do well, but he is still in rough shape and at a high risk for infection. Upon release, doctors anticipate the next year to be a difficult rehab process.
Matt and his wife Bobbye Jean are expecting their fist baby in January and finances will be slim. Neither Matt nor Bobbye Jean will be able to work during the rehab process. Please consider helping help Matt and his wife by going to YouCaring.com.
