Thursday was a dark day for wakeskating in Florida as 23-year-old Lance Duffett of Ft. Lauderdale drowned while wakeskating in a spillway in Palm Beach County. Lance was winch wakeskating when he was swept up by a rush of water and pinned to the spillway at the bottom of the dam.

Friends and rescue workers attempted to pull Lance from the tremendous pressure of the water, but they were unsuccessful and he was actually pushed through the gate on the damn to the other side before rescuers recovered his body. 

"Lance Duffett was a wakeskater, traveler, and most importantly a friend to us all," said Silias Thurman. "Lance could put a smile on your face in seconds, often lighting up a group with laughter, and you always knew when he showed up that it was going to be a good time. His positive attitude toward life and permanent stoke will always be remembered. There will never be another Duff Man."

There will be a candlelight vigil for Lance on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM at the spillway (969 Laurel Rd., North Palm Beach, FL 33408). Friends of Lance are asked to wear all sorts of colors and anything that reminds them of Lance and his wonderful spirit. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate his wonderful amazing life and spirit.
 
Also, this year's NorCal Convergence will have a bonfire celebration of the life of Lance Duffett on October 5th. If you can make it, all the support is appreciated.
