Lake Arenal, Costa Rica - The Costa Rican wakeboard family gathered again for the second edition of the Copa FlyZone, the "Unofficial Costa Rican Wakeboarding Championship."
 
A great addition this year was the presence of current female World Champion Wakeboarding and Liquid Force rider Bec Gange. She amazed the crowd not only with her big airs, but also with her great personality, being the perfect ambassador for the sport and her sponsors.
 
Weather wasn't very favourable (not to say it was simply terrible right at the start of the event), but still 18 riders showed up to battle for the titles in four categories (Juniors up to 14, Ladies, Men and Men Advanced).
 
The JetSurf Costa Rica – people were on site to explain all about their brand new product and to show how Jetsurfing is done. That combined with the competition, Bec’s demonstrations, a party with several DJ’s playing, some balance boarding and more kept people entertained all weekend.
 
Sunday saw the finals with some surprising and some not so surprising results. Like last year Melissa Liscano took top honours in the Women’s category. 12-Year-old Vivian Fischel won Juniors, Stephan de Smidt rode some great sets all weekend and took gold in Men. Men Advanced saw a surprising winner in Andrés Fabian.
 
FlyZone’s Sander Werink: "The goal was to bring the scene together and let riders get used to a competition format. Mission accomplished! And we had fun while doing it too. So good to see many familiar faces and always great to see some new ones as well. And having Bec around was the icing on the cake, of course. An excellent weekend for wakeboarding in Costa Rica!”
 
Gabriel "Chata" Barrantes (2nd place Men’s category): "That was awesome, but I’m also a bit sad. I wanted to marry Bec and live on an organic farm with her. But now she’s gone."

- 1st Place Women: Melissa Liscano
- 1st Place Men: Stephan de Smidt
- 1st Place Men Advanced: Andrés Fabian
