Wes MorrissetteWW: Let’s start with some stats...Name, age and where do you live?
WM: Wes Morrissette, 27, Birmingham, Alabama.

WW: For how many years have you been wakeboarding?
WM: I have been riding for a total of thirteen years, only seriously for the past five or six though.

WW: Who introduced you to the sport of wakeboarding?
WM: I grew up on the water and I don’t even remember learning how to water ski. I just remember doing it. When I was about fourteen I saw wakeboarding on the X-Games for the first time. I showed my dad and a few weeks later he brought home a wakeboard for me to try. I got up first try and have been hooked on the sport ever since!

WW: Where is your local lake?
WM: I mainly ride at Logan Martin Lake, but Flip Side Watersports just opened up a 2.0 cable system at Oak Mountain State Park. The new park is only 20 minutes from my house, so I spent a lot of time there this summer.

Wes MorrissetteWW: How is the wakeboard scene at Logan Martin Lake and at the new Cable Park?
WM: Logan Martin Lake does not have much of a wakeboard scene. The new 2.0 cable park is developing a nice scene though.

WW: Do you ride with the same people or do you venture out and go out with other riders?
WM: When I ride boat it is usually the same crew, but I’m down to ride with anyone who will pull me around. I got gas money! At the cable I ride with different people all the time. I have already met a lot of new friendly faces that I would be down to ride with any day.

WW: What kind of boat do you usually ride behind?
WM: I have a 1993 Maxum with an inboard/outboard motor, no tower and no ballast. It gets the job done, but it is definitely more than just wake envy. One of my buddies has a 2004-2005 230 MasterCraft Maristar and another has a 2002 MasterCraft X2. I go with them every chance I get.

WW: How about your wakeboard set up?
WM: Right now I’m loving my 2013 Marek Bio with 2014 Marek System Pro bindings behind the boat. It’s the best setup I have ever owned. I was rocking a Byerly Jib at the park, but I snapped it a couple months ago. Looking to replace it with a Franchise FLX.

Wes MorrissetteWW: What do you enjoy most about wakeboarding?
WM: Going big and showing off!

WW: Have you gotten any wakeboarding related injuries?
WM: Yes, if concussions count.

WW: What do you like to do when you’re not wakeboarding?
WM: I like to edit my GoPro footage in my spare time. Unfortunately, at the moment all I have time to do is study. I’m in my senior year of Mechanical Engineering school and it takes up all of my time.

WW: Do you have WakeWorld.com set as your home page?
WM: I do now!

WW: What are your top three favorite wakeboard videos?
WM: That’s a tough one! There are so many awesome wakeboarding videos out there. Al Sur is amazing. I love how it captures the Mexican lifestyle while displaying wakeboarding at its finest. Beyond Perception is insane. That video features some next level wakeboarding for sure. My last pick would be Wakeboarding Rocks by Hyperlite. It’s from a while back, but it was a wakeboarding video that inspired me to start filming and editing my own videos. If you want to check out my latest edit, here it is...

Wes MorrissetteWW: Are there any tricks that you are working on or want to work on?
WM: The next trick I want to learn is a whirly bird or maybe a back mobe. The whirly bird has been a trick I have wanted to learn since I first started riding.

WW: Are there any wakeboarders that you look up to?
WM: Not any one rider specifically, but I look up to the older guys who still shred and continue to progress. I’m about to be 28 and I am definitely beginning to feel the abuse my body has taken over the years. Watching those guys like Murray and Shapiro killing it at 40ish years old gives me hope that I still have plenty of time to keep progressing.

WW: What would your ideal day be like?
WM: Wake up, go wakeboard until it’s too dark to see, then go home and grill out with my friends.

WW: Are there any spots that you hope to ride at one day?
Wes MorrissetteWM: Radar Lake would be sweet!

WW: Do you have a vision of where wakeboarding will be in ten years?
WM: I believe cable parks are going to drive the future of wakeboarding. Cable parks make it easier for the average person to go out and try wakeboarding. As we all know, wakeboarding boats are expensive to buy and maintain. Because of this, it is difficult for the average individual to truly get a good wakeboarding experience behind a boat. Cable parks eliminate the need for expensive boats and are growing the sport more rapidly than ever before. I believe this will get wakeboarding the recognition it deserves and push the sport to levels it has never seen before.

WW: Do you have any words of advice to those starting out?
WM: Just have fun!

WW: Is there anyone that you would like to thank?
WM: My friends, who pull me around all the time, and my parents.
