$9778 Raised for injured riders and underprivileged kids.
San Diego, CA – For over 10 years now WakeWorld has been working with generous companies throughout the wake industry to raise money for Toys for Tots and, on occasion, other worthy causes. Over $67,000 has been raised for Toys for Tots, with an additional $12,000 being raised for the victims of hurricane Katrina and over $4,000 for the victims of California’s wildfires in 2007. Last year alone we were able to donate over $10,000 worth of toys and cash to Toys for Tots. For 2014, we added $9,717 to that total.
Normally, we donate all profits from our annual fundraiser to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. However, this year the wakesports community has incurred some serious tragedies to two riders; Brad Smeele (paralysis) and Matt Manzari (electrocution/ burns). Therefore, we split the profits from this year’s fundraiser three ways with a third each going to Brad and Matt’s recovery funds and a third going to our standing commitment to Toys for Tots.
For 2014 we had 99 auctions that you were able to bid on! We gathered lots of gear from a lot of great sponsors and started each auction at $1 for each item! Auctions ran for a week in early December. The $9,826 we raised will be split evenly between the Brad Smeele Foundation, Matt Manzari’s Recovery Fund and Toys for Tots. Special thanks to all the people and companies that donated and to all the people that bid on the auctions.
