Shaun Murray

Shaun MurrayShaun Murray’s a nice guy. In fact, for anybody that knows him, that’s a huge understatement. If you think you’re a nice guy and you meet Shaun Murray, you’ll most likely walk away thinking you’ve got to step up your game! He’s always got a smile and a funny line to share with everyone he meets and he’s constantly bending over backwards to help out friends and strangers alike.

Therefore, it was no surprise when Shaun agreed to have me out to The Boarding School, the wakeboarding school he co-owns with Pro Tour boat driver Travis Moye, to check out both his camp and his brand new Super Air Nautique G23. Ok, I might have been a little surprised when he offered to let me see the goods one day before the boat was supposed to be released to the media at Nautique’s huge G23 launch event! In fact, I hope I don’t get him in trouble by dropping dime on him with this article!

We arrived at The Boarding School early and were greeted by Shaun and fellow Boarding School instructors Josh Palma and Kyle Rattray. We went a little nuts checking out the new Nautique G23 and took about 1,000 photos, but we gave you the Shaun Murraydetails on that in another article.

This article is more about the superhuman wakeboarding abilities of Shaun Murray. Despite the fact that he’s been wakeboarding since the Johnson administration and has had a few body parts rebuilt Steve Austin style, he remains one of my (and I’m not the only one) favorite riders to watch. He’s one of the original “big air” riders and continues to extend tricks well into the flats and higher than most riders dream of going. I’m still convinced that there was trick photography involved in the Raley he dropped in his section of Global Warning that has to have covered the length of a football field.

Below are some photos from that day behind Shaun’s new toy. The conditions were so perfect that even I had to strap on some of Shaun’s gear and get some time in behind the G23 and, of course, take advantage of the wisdom Shaun has to offer. Also below is a video of Shaun from a recent batch of videos featuring the entire Boarding School staff. If you like that one, be sure to check out the videos of coaches Jeff Langley, Kyle Rattray, Kyle Alberts, Jimmy Trask, Aaron Perkins and Travis Moye.

Amazing- I had the pleasure of riding with him in Colorado and his riding and skills are breathtaking. He is the rider that inspired me to ride since 2000- SM Rocks!
