Amateur World Champions Crowned at the Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships in Toronto

2016 WWA WorldsTORONTO – The second day of the 2016 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships presented by Rockstar Energy hosted incredible athletes from all over the world to compete waterfront in front of a massive crowd at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) for the final stop of the Nautique Wake Series. Amateur riders began the day with their final qualifying runs of the week while competing exclusively behind the three-time wakeboard boat of the year, the Super Air Nautique G23. In the afternoon, beautiful sunny-blue skies and warm temperatures treated riders to excellent conditions on the water as they began their assault on the opportunity to become crowned World Champion with the first finals of the week.

Nautique WWA Wakeboard National ChampionshipsA star-studded field, featuring riders from four different countries, emerged in the Jr. Men (14-18) final and boasted thrilling action with each rider that hit the water. Victor Cadette Cordeiro (BRA) used the perfect pull of the Super Air Nautique G23 to successfully land technical trick combinations and grab the win with an 88.33. The runner-up position went to Josh Swift (AUS), who was awarded a score of 78.33, while Andrea Montes de Oca Gende’s (ITA) 71.67 was good enough for the third and final step on the podium.

Despite being some of the oldest riders to compete during the four-day event, the Veteran Women (40 & over) division witnessed plenty of big air take place from its talented lineup. The battle was intense for the top position, forcing the athletes to lay it all on the line, but Joy Manning (USA) rode solid to steal the judge’s attention with the highest score of 78.33. An impressive effort by Kat Laird (USA) guided her to the second spot with a 58.33, just ahead of a 40.00 by Susan Sheehan (USA) in third.

Nautique WWA Wakeboard National ChampionshipsIn the Girls (10-13) division, riders took their performances to the next level riding behind the G23’s perfectly shaped wake at the Ontario Place Channel West. With the highly prestigious World Championship on the line, the pressure was on for the ladies to uncork huge tricks that they have spent countless hours perfecting throughout the year. Mary Morgan Howell (USA) prevailed for the victory with an 81.67 while Elle Christensen (USA) and Hollie Waldrop (USA) completed the podium in second and third, respectively.

With the ability to give riders of every age and skill level the best experience on the water, the wake behind the Super Air Nautique G23 had every competitor smiling from ear to ear. Talen Brown (AUS) continued his recent hot streak of impressive performances at events this season by propelling himself to the win and cementing his name as the 2016 Jr. Boy’s (9&Under) World Champion. Just behind Brown’s score of 82.67, the second spot was captured by Xavier Olea (MEX) with an 80.00. A hard-fought run, including two brilliant passes, allowed Jett Ellis (AUS) to fend off the fellow competition and nail a solid 71.67 for third.

Nautique WWA Wakeboard National ChampionshipsThe highly anticipated Jr. Pro Men (14-18) division showcased progressive riding behind the rider favorite G23 wake as riders threw down everything they had to begin their quarterfinal qualifying runs, which consisted of a huge turnout and five qualifying heats. Sam Brown (AUS) nailed two consistent passes for the top spot in Heat 1, while Guenther Oka (USA) took the top honors in Heat 2. Despite stiff competition, Jake Pelot (USA) outdueled his rivals to lockdown the number one spot in Heat 3. Australian’s Elliot Digney and Cobe France kept the crowd on the edge of their seats by performing flawlessly en route to the win in Heat 3 and Heat 4, respectively.

Dedicated to progressing the sport from the ground up, the Nautique Wake Series puts riders first, developing the stars of tomorrow and showcasing the top athletes of today. The addition of the WWA Wakeboard World Championships provides athletes the perfect platform throughout the entire season with every major event held behind the Super Air Nautique G23. The Nautique Wake Series is the only event series in 2016 that gives riders of all ages, gender and skill level the opportunity to compete at an elite level.

The third day of the Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships is set to kick off at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday, August 27, beginning with the remaining rounds of Amateur Finals, while Professional Men and Women Qualifying rounds will kick off in the afternoon.
