Amateur Titles Awarded to International Field on Day Three
of the Nautique Wake Open Presented by Rockstar


2017 Wake OpenOrlando, FL -  Twelve amateur Nautique Wake Open titles were awarded today as the Super Air Nautique G23 treated an international field of riders to a perfect pull in every heat. The day capped off with Jr. Pro Men Semifinals along with Pro Men Quarterfinals and Pro Women Semifinals showcasing the world’s top wakeboarders as they put it all on the line to secure a spot in Sunday’s main event.
 
In an inspiring Adaptive Sitboarding final, Phil Kerr (CDN) looked awesome on the water, going huge to take home a first place finish followed by Nathan Smith (AUS) in second who mixed it up with different grabs and the amazing Ian Hickmont (AUS) in third.
 
Dayle Cartwright (USA) looked all-time during his run with two stand-up passes behind 4X wakeboard and 3X Wakesurf boat of the year, the Super Air Nautique G23. Cartwright led the field scoring 90.67 with his signature tantrum-to-blind and a huge raley followed by the stylish Kevin Michael (USA) in second with a score of 81.00 and Mark Goldsmith (GBR) rounding out the podium in third scoring 66.00.
 Nautique Wake OpenIn the Boy’s division Jamie Huser (USA) took the podium with a third place score of 77.50 landing a smooth toeside backside 360 in his run. Taking the podium in second place, Dylan Johnson (USA) scored 83.50 with a his first 720 in a competition. Thomas Herman (USA) took the win landing a huge backside 540, KGB, and tantrum to blind scoring 85.67 for the Nautique Wake Open title.
 
"We had a great day here at OWC to finish up the amateur divisions and set the stage for finals. New faces and new tricks kept it exciting in every heat and the riding has been unreal! We can't wait to see how it all plays out and look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow," said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson.
 
The Pro Women’s division went from ten riders down to six heading into tomorrow’s final. The Pro Men started the day with twenty-four riders cut to sixteen making it through to the semifinal. When the wakes settled eight riders remain ready to throw down behind the industry-leading Super Air Nautique G23 in tomorrow’s final.
 
Nautique Wake OpenThe Pro Men's division saw Nautique athlete Mike Dowdy (USA) set the pace with a win in heat 1 of the quarterfinal round throwing two double flips for a score of 84.67. Cory Teunissen (AUS) won his heat, scoring 89.33 with three mobe 5’s and two 900’s. Harley Clifford (AUS) had the highest scoring run of the day, looking flawless in two stand-up passes that saw him stomp a double indy tantrum on his first trick, two 900’s, and three mobe 5’s for a score of 91.00.
 
Closing out the day with the Pro Women Semifinals, Zahra Kell (AUS) took the win landing a dum dum, and a big cab 540 in heat 1 with a score of 75.67 followed by Tarah Mikacich (USA) with 73.33 and Jamie Lopina (USA) scoring 71.33. In heat 2, Rebecca Gange (AUS) showcased her style with a smooth nose grab 360 and a frontside 540 taking the heat win scoring 73.00. Giorgia Gregorio (ITA) took second throwing a huge whirlybird to score 71.33 followed by Erika Lang (USA) in third with a score of 65.00.
 
The fourth and final day of the Nautique Wake Open begins at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, April 30th with all remaining amateur and professional final rounds. The main event starts at noon with more on-water action and fun for all ages on-site including a coloring contest, face painting, autograph signings, and more!
