Collegiate Wake Series - Lake Elsinore

Share

Advanced Men Winners - RJ Pabon (2nd), Ben Hernstedt (1st) and Anthony Sutton (3rd)It was a beautiful, calm and sunny day on Saturday, November 3rd at the Lake Elsinore Channel for Empire Wake's Collegiate Wake Series Southern California stop. The water was as butter as can be and all of the collegiate riders were ready to tear it up behind the Liquid Force Brostock edition Axis A22. Some of the top teams on the West Coast were there trying to get a big victory under their belts including Arizona State, Sacramento State and Long Beach State.

There were many spectators there to watch the ladies go off the dock at 10:00 AM. Jen Barth, in her last semester at Sacramento State, was able to throw her best run of the season helping her clinch third place. However, there was no keeping up with Sac State's freshman Nor Cal Hyperlite rider Nataly Connor and ASU junior Chelsea Clark who were throwing down harder and going bigger than most guys could. It was a close battle, but Chelsea ended up taking the victory, grabbing her second win of the season.

Collegiate Wake Series - Lake ElsinoreThe Men's Advanced division was a definite boat race where eight guys were throwing down hammers. No basicgrab or 180 would cut it in this division. Senior Anthony Sutton out of ASU was able to take home third place with his various Raley tricks and roll-to-reverts as clean as can be. Finishing in second place was junior R.J. Pabon, another ASU rider who went out there and grabbed mostly all his tricks. But there was no reeling in Sac State junior and BoardWarrior rep Ben Hernstedt with his very unique style and wrapped tricks giving him his second victory of the season.

In the Open Division, ASU senior Jean Philippe Bray out of Montreal, Canada rode uncontested. However, he still went out there andCollegiate Wake Series - Lake Elsinore put on a show for the crowd with his huge Raley tricks and his steezy spins. He just came short of a heel 7 by dropping the handle.

In the Wakeskate division ASU swept with Anthony Sutton taking third and R.J. Pabon got second doing basic lip slides and wake-to-wakes. However, the number one collegiate wakeskater in the nation, sophomore Cole Kraiss, went out and put on another demo so he could be handed his fourth uncontested win of the season. Going out there and steezing it up with multiple varial Collegiate Wake Series - Lake Elsinoretricks, huge wake-to-wake grabs and 180’s, a routine-looking indy backside 180 to blind and he just came short of a switch front heel 3.

The Intermediate division finish with Long Beach's Paul Moran and Casey Sullivan in third and second and ASU's Todd Scott taking first. Beginners finished with Long Beach's Ryan Carpenter in third, ASU's Mike Niemiec in second and Sac State's Kyle Kiaski in first.

Overall the ASU Wake Devils took the victory giving them their third victory of the season and keeping them ranked first in the nation with Sac State moving up to fourth and Long Beach moving up to 10th! A big thanks to Ricky Gonzalez and Chad Lowe for coming out and putting on a killer demo for all of the fans and riders. Also, thanks to Dupe, Elevated Clothing and Red Bull for coming out and supporting the event!
