Waketoberfest XXII

Share

Waketoberfest XXIIWaketoberfest is the longest running wakeboard lifestyle event in Texas. On Friday, October 22 Waketoberfest XII kicked off! Wakeboarders, wakeskaters and wakesurfers from all over Texas started rolling into Pace Bend Park on beautiful Lake Travis by car or boat. Sail and Ski showed up with a Nautique and the contest was pulled by a Supra boat brought by South Austin Marine. Waketoberfest 2010 was the biggest one ever and hopefully will keep growing every year with more and more enthusiasm and athletes.

Friday afternoon the day started off with tents being pitched, campers being set and boats being launched. To get the party started up, O'Brien representative Buck Ashcraft pulled up with a ton of tubes putting on a crazy team tube contest. I know you don’t see much tubing in wakeboard contests, but just imagine the show it could be. There were multiple injuries in this tube contest such as bloody noses and a dislocated finger - brutal!

To the victor goes the spoilsAfter the tube contest was over, the sun was setting and the party began! Austin’s Original Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka showed up making sure all adults were supplied with beverages. Live Music was played and bonfires were lit 'till about 4:00 AM. Me, being a "Florida boy," thought that Floridians really know how to party (of course, I’m too young to party), but these Texans were experts. I didn’t think I could last the rest of the weekend… TOO MUCH FUN FOR JULIAN.

Saturday morning arose and breakfast was cooked up for everyone. Everyone headed out for an early morning set on Lake Travis to catch the early butter. As everyone was finishing up their morning shred, they all came back in to start the contest. The intermediate wakeboard division started it off following up with the women’s division, then surf. Throughout these divisions there were harsh winds and white caps, but the riders still battled for the top position with everything they had to show.

Waketoberfest XXIIFinally the pro division was up and, lucky for us, the winds calmed down. Many local pros showed up, such as Billy Garcia, Jade Whirly, Kurt Zimmerman and J.B. O’Neill. Everyone killed it throwing down some of the sickest runs at Waketoberfest to date. We were all given a down and back pass with a double up.

Now the contest is over and these guys had a look in their eyes... BOOM! Glow sticks, fires, live music playing so loud! Wow, the final night had started, but this time music was blasting from speakers and glow sticks were everywhere! Women, Deep Eddy Vodka and music...what more could you ask for? The night went on and on with dancing and fun until everyone was eventually worn out or passed out.

Sunday morning, October 24th, everyone woke up and somehow after these long nights wakeboarders headed to the lake to take one last set for the weekend before heading home. These guys don’t mess around. Conditions were great, water was glass and everything ended on a good note. Everyone packed their bags and headed home from a great weekend at Waketoberfest. I cant wait 'till next year!
