The 2010 CableWakeboard.com National Points Championships at Texas Ski Ranch had its inaugural debut recently, and was nothing short of record setting. Over a hundred competitors from nine different cable parks brought their A-Game to the plate to try and take home the cup.

From the moment I walked in the door at TSR, four days before the contest, I could feel the energy. I’ve never been to a contest where there were so many people who were all so passionate and just looking to have some fun. The camaraderie of all the riders from all the corners of the United States made me remember why I love wakeboarding so much. For some reason I knew from the get go this event was going to be different in a great way.

One of the biggest differences was that there was time to ride in between the heats. Which was great because the spectators and other riders could go hang on the dock with the pros. I even got to rub shoulders with world champ, Tom Fooshee.

Another huge difference in the NPC is that there are not only wakeboard and wakeskate divisions, but also a wakeski division and a cash-entry winner-take-all kneeboard contest to make sure that anyone who wasn’t afraid to get wet could join the fun. Now a lot of die hard wakeboarders and wakeskaters may hate on kneeboarding and wakeskiing, but I tried to kneeboard at a high level and about drowned. I also tried to wakeski and my “you know what” area wasn’t too pleased. Its no joke in my book.

The final amazing difference in this contest was its organization. When things were scheduled to start; they started. There was no show up and wait two hours for people to show up and get things moving. Huge kudos to Blake Hess and the rest of the Texas Ski Ranch, and Cablewakeboard.com staff.

In the end I feel that the NPC was probably the best contest I have ever been to. Not only was the riding phenomenal, the contest insane and a ton of fun, but this event started a whole new revolution of wake park riders building a nationwide network and community. I will see y’all next year!
