Had my crank break off right on the back of the harmonic balancer. Engine is getting pulled now for a rebuild but wondering about shopping for used or new replacement for it. Just don't know where to look really.
2009 LSV with 470 hours. Horrible timing, and like everyone else on here I love my boat. Crushed and such a random failure, boat ran great with no issues.

Thanks. Better price, is this one fuel injected? Air intake is in a completely different spot then my current one.

Just chatted with one of the high performance engine rebuilders, he thinks it will only be around $2000. He is more worried about tracking down the right crank then anything else. I guess I should contact Indmar

GM Performance - 383 fastburn, prob purchase crank through a GM Performance reseller know you can get short block ready to rock!

I agree you should be able to get a GM 383 crank for it and rebuilding is def the way to go .. Ive heard from more then one builder that some of these engines are getting out and are not being balanced right from the factory . If you have a good machinist / engine shop fix it my bet is that it will be even better then it was before and smoother .If you got the engine out already it shouldnt take long to fix as long as the machinist isn't too backed up ..sorry about your luck man what a bummer

Do you have a local inboard dealer around? Call them and see who they get their longblocks from.

Call Michigan Motorz, you can get a drop in reman from them for $2,300. http://www.michiganmotorz.com/vortec...rent-p-68.html It's hands down the best deal you'll find
Edit: Turns out the 6.2L is a bit over 4000 http://www.michiganmotorz.com/vortec...ent-p-945.html was thinking of the 5.7L, sorry.

GM Part number for the crank is 12489436, seems that the common rate is just under $1200 for this, short block is part number 12499106 and seems to go for around the $3600 mark.

I would just get your serial numbers and call Jasper motors and buy a long block from them. We've put in 20+ engines from them and haven had one problem yet. They also have a very good warranty with their engines. They do have a core charge though. Michigan motors seem pretty solid, but I'm not sure about their warranty though.

Thanks for the help and advice. My local semi retired (67 yr old) mech got the engine pulled and into a machine shop in 6 hours. Hopefully it will be done by the end of next week (anti jinx).
Both the mechanic and the guy at the machine shop said the balancing and some of the parts used on the new engines are crap.

I would just pull it apart and assess damage. You may get away with just replacing the crank and balancing the whole shebang along with a new balancer. New Forged 383 stroker crank about $600-$700, a few hundred for machine shop, and a couple hundred in gaskets and misc bs. Probably $1200 and a weekend, plus however long hte machine shop takes to balance, assuming no other damage.
I would not use a cast stroker crank, factory probably used a cheapo cast crank. Combine with sloppy balance job and you get a failure.

Sorry to thread jack, but has anyone swapped their motor with a larger replacement? Say going from a 5.7 to a 6.0...? The only info I can find on them internets' is i/o guys or much older boats.
I know it is *possible* but how extensive an undertaking would it be? would a boat with limited computers (think Axis) need more than just the engine's computers replaced or would there be issues with the congruity of the whole system?
I suppose to fuel the question, I have had dreams of swapping up to the cts-v motor from my 350 in my a24.

CTSV engine is a completely different animal compared to a 350 chevy you would need everything including the right computer tuning .

P.O.S. Made in China Crank.....
There are quite a few flaws in it. Talked to the dealer and he was just said yep, they come out of the GM factory like that.
