Boat dealer "base" price

A buddy of mine priced out a certain make/model boat a few months ago and then I recently had the same dealer build me a boat as well (we both have bought boats from this dealer before) and when looking at the build sheet our "base" price for the same boat is exact to the penny. I've seen a couple build sheets of the same year/make/model boat from dealers in different states and their "base" price is anywhere from $1000 to $2000 cheaper. The option prices were off some, but not enough to worry about...$5-$25 here and there on the little stuff but a few hundred off in price difference in trailer bling and stereo packages. I know my dealer is one of the top dealers in this brand and the other cheaper base price dealer is also a major dealer. Do dealers set their own base price based on volume discounts possibly from manufacturer or is it just up to each dealer to set their own "base"...maybe a combo of both?

Base price if your talking MSRP should be set by the manufacturer. The difference you are seeing may be the difference in freight. The further they are from the factory the higher the freight is going to be. All those build sheet numbers are MSRP numbers so in the grand scheme they don't matter that much.

I see what you're saying...but the cheaper dealers are also twice as far away from the manufacturers compared to where I'm located. We are talking several states away.

I bet the dealerships hate boat show season when we all go to the boat show and then post pictures of the pricing that they aren't allowed to post online.

Then you got me. Maybe this manufacturer does indeed price their dealers. Doesn't seem hardly fair to the consumer with the protected territories. I know a few of the companies used to have boatbuilders online complete with pricing. Maybe they are still using last years pricing? Prices usually go up about 1-2% so that would be about your difference.

msrp means very little on a new boat. people will buy that exact same boat, even from the same state and dealer and spend $10k+-. Negotiation has more to do with the price of a boat than MSRP imo.
