I have narrowed it down to two boats that I am looking at. These are both 20 footers. I like that because of ease of towing and also they will fit in my garage nicely.

Pros and cons to each?

2011 Malibu VTX
160 hours
$53k

2013 Malibu MXZ
175 hours
$55k

Do you know which hull the vtx has? Diamond or wake?

I owned a 2010 VTX with the diamond hull. My slalom friends thought it had a decent wake for running the course. It took a lot of weight to get a decent wakeboard wake.

I demoed the mxz. I almost pulled the trigger on a leftover 2015, but I chickened out over the resale value of a discontinued model.

If you don't ski and aren't concerned about resale, I'd go with the MXZ. I'm not sure if the VTX has surfgate for that year, but I sold my very loaded 2010 for about 10k less than that.

2013 should have Surfgates, 2011 won't.

Bingo! The surfgate is critical. Also, the VTX drives like sports car, but it feels like a 20ft boat. The MXZ is the roomiest 20ft boat I've been in.

I had a 22mXZ and loved it.
