Android smart phones apear to be on fire with 300,000 attachements per day.

Android Honeycomb tablets are also coming in mass.

Oddly, all of this was enabled by Apple. And, currently, Microsoft and Intel are not required.

Look at MIPS, thats who I have been investing with in the semiconductor market. They will be doing a predominance of the Android base phones in the near future. Their processors are using multi threading technology and are super effecient. They are being used now in anything from phones to cars and TV's. Its worth a look.

How was Android 'Enabled' by Apple? The first smartphone was the Palm Pre and the Blackberry. Apple was the first to have a full touchscreen. If that is what determines the 'Enabled' part then yes, Apple enabled Android. However, there are ALOT of differences between Android and ios. Android is innovating much faster than Apple. Android is open so it allows for much more availability to the hardware and allows more companies to make Android phones. This allows for alot more options in hardware for customers. Big advantage. Android has Flash for websites, Apple does not. Android can video chat over 3g, Apple does it over wifi only. Just a few differences....

IMO...

Before the IPhone, phones were fairly lame computing devices. The iPhone, through it's sizable usable touch screen, elevated the phone to be a "computer". Suddenly, people are wondering what CPU is inside. And, the fact that WINTEL is NOT present is very exciting/interesting. Before the iPhone/iPad, tablets were attempted and they failed because the user interface was not useful. The iPhone fixed this. So, Apple elevated smart phones/tablets to be useful computers making room for Android which is putting WINTEL at risk.

Yep ARMH has been on the move too but look for MIPS to dig into their damn near monopoly in this market. 20% has been forcasted for the next couple years.
