3200 lbs ballast in a 21 footer. Sounds like a world class surf boat to me

I am confused, the first few 2011 21v's I saw had PCM power, now they come with Mercs? Significant downgrade there...

For the 23E, you have to go here:

It's the 23H now.

I know a lot of people on here seem to not like the Merc's but I have an '08 with the Merc and it's been a dream. No problems and really easy to service.

Scott the 2011 21v had the PCM powerplant (Excalibur) the 23v has always had the Merc 8.1 until the latest gen which are now using the 8.2 as GM stopped production of the bigblock back in 09 checkout this article for more info on the Merc 8.2 Power Boat Mag - Mercruiser 8.2 mag engine

The PCM was also used to try the Zero Off system. You can see how they felt about that decision. Finally a new website after waiting how many years? lol.

Fred - do you think it was problems with PCM/zero off system or was it the cost of the PCM engines/zero off system? A lot of other companies use PCM and have no issues.

Tomorow, I'm gonna unwrapped and see for the first time the cousin's new 2011 23v and we are not so much sure of what it's gonna be! We know that he's been done at the new shop but, that's it! I'm nervous!

Ian, it doesn't actually show the boat that the rider is surfing behind.
But on a related note, there has NEVER been a case of someone getting caught up in a prop from wakesurfing. If you consider the amount of water being pushed out that prop, it's hard to imagine someone ever getting into it. I think your more likely to get hit by lightning.

There are some big problems with the Epic site and data on it. The website lists the dry weight of their 23V at 4500#. The brochure shows it at 3900#. Their old website had the dry weight more than 1000# less again. The weights for the 21V are the same. Maybe they just got the scale calibrated or they were misleading us before, but they have gone from the lightest boat to one of the heaviest with stoke of a website.
Has anyone who owns one ever run across a scale?

there are documented (by pictures on here) of people's hands mangled by v-drive props. Who wants to see what happens when they fall into an I/O?
When you stick up for Epic in situations like that it makes it hard to take what good advice you have as seriously in the future.

Agreed, I like Epics but to say there is a better chance of getting struck by lightning? I would never ever wakesurf behind an IO.

I'm not sticking up for Epic here. I don't even own one. That was a tangent comment.
Those pictures you are referring to are from a machine accident; not even from a boat prop. This subject comes up all of the time, and all I'm saying is there has never been a documented incident of a WAKESURFER getting tangled in a prop. That's a fact. Personally, I think it's a bad idea. But that's my opinion.

Finally!!! a new Web site but not without some errors (dry weight, ballast capacity, options, etc...)
I still think Epic offers a good value boat in a market where the top players a now charging way to much $$$ non essential features like LCD systems, Bling, etc..
I will give you some feedback next week when my new Epic 23V will arrive next week.

the actual length difference between the 21v and 23v is closer to 1 foot than 2 feet, but i know that can be typical when boat manufacturers round up/down all the time.
i like how the ballast is gate valved now "90 sec to fill".... but what about the bow tank? I was thinking that it would be hard if not possible to have a gated gravity fed bow ballast. i am assuming it is pump fed right?
