Just wanted to give all those with boats at Powell a heads up about the weather. we had some super nasty winds blow in that reduced visability to 2-5 miles, and knocked out one power grid for a while in Page.

you probably don't have anything to worry about it if everything is good and tied down, but at least this way you will have a warning if not

Good to hear. I'm almost positive I tied everything down real good on my imaginary houseboat.

Not cool!

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (AZ,UT)
Helicopter Pilot Arrested

On Friday, June 12th, rangers were on patrol at a large wakeboard competition being held on Lake Powell when they saw a helicopter approach and hover within 500 feet of six beached houseboats, 15 ski boats, several personal watercraft, 20 to 25 swimmers and approximately 100 persons on shore. Several passengers then jumped from the helicopter into the water, after which the helicopter landed atop a nearby houseboat. Ranger Jared St. Clair contacted the 33-year-old pilot, out of St. George, Utah, and subsequently arrested him for illegal air delivery of passengers and creating a hazardous condition. Since an initial warning in 2003, the pilot has received four citations concerning the operation of his helicopter in the park, including two last year. He was scheduled to appear in federal magistrate’s court yesterday. [Submitted by Brent McGinn, Chief Ranger]

To bad for Mr. Johnson...

Stupid... what is this world coming to? I mean what's the point of owning your own helicopter anymore if you can't even get drunk and have a few friends do some cannonballs out the side of it? Haha..

Side note... that's a pretty sweet houseboat too. Looks double the width of most houseboats..

if anyone has or knows someone with a houseboat at wahweap marina on the furthest end of the docks from the shore they might be in for some bad news.

Why can't you jump out of a helicopter? I get the "too close to other boats" thing, but if people want to jump out, who cares?

I got a chance to fly with that dude while at Bro Stock... Man is he super crazy but probably one of the best flights I will ever go on. We were vertical with cliffs, 10' above a plateau doing full speed, drop 90 deg off a cliff, and buzz the water in some back canyons. Dude is shady but one hell of a pilot and marked memories to never forget about Lake Powell.

Sad note and being a Houseboat owner this hits home for how hard we work and to have it all melt so quick. Thank goodness for insurance but being our boat isn't a time share the memories that would be missed. Thanks to everybody that kept this fire under control the best they could.
