I think Mastercraft and Malibu are both great boats. Now i might have a bias but does anybody else think Tige's are really stepping it up? The RZ4 looks great, is there any positive feedback on the new tige's. I would love to hear about the newer models, sound off if you have one.

hahahahaha. Funny that is the first thing that pops into my mind when I hear Tige also. I don't have any personal experience with Tiqe boats, but that tattoo thread was hilarious.

The new RZ2 that I saw 3 months ago was awesome. Had a change to go out and take a few sets on it however, we had other plans that day but did see the boat. There was another WW member that did a full write up about the surfwake of that boat. Great write-up of the boat IMO.

Was at a boat show this weekend saw a RZ2. Very nice roomy boat. They have stepped up. Also met Rick the Pres. He is a very nice guy and knows his products.

We got an 09 Z1 in October ad love it so far. We only had it out about 3 times though before the weather got cold here.

They do look really good.

I always loved how they always said you don't need ballast when ya got Tap2 system. Now they come with more ballast then most other boats. 2,000lbs in the RZ2...or atleast you can upgrade to that.

Great looking boats

LOL that Tige thread that had the huge tattoo was the funniest thing I've ever read on WW. Someone needs to dial that up again.

Tige makes an awesome boat. I have an 08 20v and have no complaints. I have not been in an RZ other than at the boat shows, but I will guarantee they are just as solid as any mastercraft or Malibu. Most of the people who put down Tige have never even been in one.

Buddy of mine has an 08 rz2 and with it slammed with about 4500 lbs wake was to my knees... I'm 5'11" so was pretty big IMO... I've never ridden behind MC but the rz2 beat the SAN230 I rode behind last year

But you don't have to put weight in a tige...just use the TAPS. j/k Tige is building a good boat nowdays!

Haha, I wish Billy! I hardly have time to enjoy my 24SSV since I started law school while working, may have to wait until I graduate before I upgrade. I do love the looks of those RZ4's though, and am partial to that tower, but I'm bias.

Cody when the time is right we will get you in one.;)
dh I think that Tige is quietly becoming a bigger force in the market than most think. I know I have Tige goggles on but it is a fact that Tige is on a roll with their new innovations and styles from the last couple of years and buyers are taking notice. I believe that you will start seeing more and more Tige's on the water everywhere and not just the West Coast.
Old     (talltigeguy)      Join Date: Sep 2003       01-28-2010, 9:43 AM Reply
Jacob,

That is not a Tige tower. It is made by Extreme and is custom.

I beleive that Tige has stepped it up big time. The price tag has gone up to prove it as well.

A guy quoted a well equipped Mastercraft X45 at the Portland (I think) boat show for 78K. I bet you will find the RZ4 at that price or above.
Old     (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       01-28-2010, 9:56 AM Reply
Jacob,

That RZ2 belonged to the plant manager at XTP, it was custom built and had custom machined parts for that RZ2. It was a solid rock, built off of the XTP design for the Sea Ray Fission, their "sport" boat.

Tige's are actually the predominant wakeboard boat on our lake. The new ones are very good looking, and I've been riding behind one up until this year, switched to malibu.
Are thewy still making them super heavy? That's the one thing I don't like about them

^^^ All the same size boats from the various brands are weighing in about the same weight now.

Our friends 24v was a tank, but it made it hard to manuver, and it used up more gas to tow long sidstances.

When did the lighten them up?

"All the same size boats from the various brands are weighing in about the same weight now"

I would not say all, but yes most.

The Epic 23v dry weight is 3200lbs.

about a 1000lbs less then other 23ft boats.
Old     (dabell)      Join Date: Apr 2007       01-28-2010, 10:32 AM Reply
Ya, the 24's are definitely not easy to maneuver in the water. The 22's are so much better IMO in regards of maneuvering.

Innov8, I didn't know the spec on the Epic. I retract and will say "most" :-)
Old     (cjh1669)      Join Date: Apr 2005       01-28-2010, 10:32 AM Reply
Wow, that's only 200lbs over my VTX.

Our friends tige wake was damn good for no ballast, though it did get a little too lippy and steep when weighted wiht a bunch of people in the boat. Wide wake that would send you straight up. Still I loved riding behind it.
Old     (tn_rider)      Join Date: Dec 2009       01-28-2010, 7:53 PM Reply
i like the wake overall alot! I rode behind one this last december and it seemed like every time i edged out hard it slowed the boat WAY down and i had to wait for the speed to pick it back up. Dont know if it was driver error or what. I didnt say anything because it was a pull and i will take what i can get without complaining
Old     (brainrinse)      Join Date: Aug 2007       01-28-2010, 8:50 PM Reply
I love the Tige boats I've seen. Fit and finish was excellent, engine was smooth, nice features. But I had the exact same thing that Chase described happen behind an RZ2 last summer. Driver said we were holding speed just fine but there was no way... I'd cut out and start sinking, it wasn't even fun.
Old     (tn_rider)      Join Date: Dec 2009       01-28-2010, 9:01 PM Reply
i didnt start to sink bad but i had to sit in the flats and wait for the wash to get out of the wake before i could get on my edge..that was heelside and toeside was a different story lol i felt like i lugged the boat down when i edged in and that threw my timing off..took A HARD slam on a frontroll lol

^^^ Were the owners running the standard prop or the correct prop for the additional ballast amount?

The normal prop is an Acme 537. When adding ballast, the prop should be changed to an Acme 1135. $.02

In my case we were in an unweighted demo boat

i was in a 22ve? correct me if im wrong on the model but i know its the 22 ft. with 1400 ibs of ballast....still with that weight and 5 people the wake was NOWHERE near the wake of the x star we usually ride with the flyhigh system. Although i did love the shape of the wake and was a fun set! i have fun riding behind whatever boat it is weather its stock ballast or the boat is slammed

If you were to have an x star with 2,000lbs and a tige RZ2 with 2,000lbs should the wake be comparable?
Old     (dabell)      Join Date: Apr 2007       01-29-2010, 11:59 AM Reply
^^^ No, because there is a difference it hull's. The hull on the Tige has a more pronounce rocker than the x-Star. That is where Tige utilizes the TAP2 plate to adjust the form of the wake.

However, it would be interesting to see what the difference would be.

"still with that weight and 5 people the wake was NOWHERE near the wake of the x star we usually ride with the flyhigh system."

I'd agree with this statement 100%, BUT, lets put it into context: Your stock Camaro is nowhere near as fast as my V8 mustang with an aftermarket super charger.

The X-Star Fly High kit is advertised as being 2500 on top of the factory ballast, so the above statement is not an apples to apples comparison.

I've come to realize that the typical Tige wake basher is a bunghole who obviously doesn't like his own boats stock ballast wake, as he loads his own up with 2K plus in additional ballast. Seems hypocritical to me $.02.

*NOTE* not directing this at anyone posting in this thread. So far, the few dingleberries that always seem to turn a thread into bash-fest, have not shown up, and i'm glad.

So how can we get as close as possible comparison. Say Xstar vs RZ4 2k ballast. Anybody want to take some wake photos.
Old     (dabell)      Join Date: Apr 2007       01-29-2010, 2:46 PM Reply
The better comparison would be the X-star and RZ2.. The RZ4 is a 24'...

That would definitely be interesting and probably fun to board behind both of them.
Old     (chpthril)      Join Date: Oct 2007       01-29-2010, 2:49 PM Reply
Oops, sorry Dingle

Actually, the 22ft Tiges will produce a better wake with the same amount of ballast as a 24ft Tige. That extra 2ft takes a lot of extra weight to sink.

I wasn't speaking of the wake by the way. By all things being equal, I was speaking of the fact that I'm on a team deal with Mastercraft, so things aren't equal. Also, I don't have a Tige dealer near me, we have had a couple in the past, but they all dropped the line.
As long as we're talking about wake, I have ridden a lot of different wakes, and yes, the X Star is my favorite, but only if it's dumped. I do have the Fly High system, and always ride with that full. That is my personal opinion though, and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. If someone likes their wake better, it's fine by me.
My point was, I do think that Tige has stepped it up, and I like their new boats. I have never ridden one, so I can't comment on the wake. I think the RZ2 and the RZ4 are great looking boats.

All around great boat IMO. The only thing that would turn me away is the speed issue. i guess with a diff. prop it would be golden

They also might not have had the perfect pass set up with firm enough speed settings
Old     (dabell)      Join Date: Apr 2007       01-30-2010, 10:36 AM Reply
^^^ Good point Ray. Once the SpeedSet is turned on and the boat is moving forward, the driver should move the throttle past the amount of movement for that specific speed. More than likely that will be WOT.
Old     (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       01-31-2010, 8:43 AM Reply
It's been a very long time since I rode behind the RZ2 I posted above, but if there's one thing I remember about the speed control it was that it was smooooth to drive. You don't even feel it take control, and it's very subtle and easy to use. I was a big fan and was really impressed with it, and this comes from a PerfectPass owner. I don't remember any issues behind the boat, I think I would have remembered if it stalled up a little in the flats, but who knows, lots of alcohol consumed since then.
Old     (ajholt7)      Join Date: Apr 2009       01-31-2010, 12:13 PM Reply
Never had any issues like that with my Tige. I have to believe, like was already stated, that the throttle was probably not pushed down far enough once the cruise control was set.
