Tranny Guru's ?!?!?!?

I have to replace or rebuild the tranny on my 91 Supra Sunsport with has 1.23:1 tranny and my question is do I have to go back with the exact same tranny is there a better one or a cheaper alternative ? Anyone know where I can ship my tranny to have it rebuilt ? The cheapest I've been quoted locally is $2700 and that just seems a little on the high side to me . . . Any help would be greatly appreciated
