I currently have a 1999 Tige 21V. I fill 400# sacs in the back lockers and a 350 in the Bow. The wakeboarding wake is nice and fun but not something to write home about. I ride around 20mph and am a fairly basic rider with my skill set (wake to wake 180's, goofy and regular Wake to Wake jumps with board grabs of course).
I am by no means a pro or believe I will ever get there
. I used to play professional baseball and just started wakeboarding a few yrs ago. I know what it takes to get really good at a skill and I don't have that Time and enough crazy left in me to keep eating it to learn the harder tricks wakeboarding
. We wakeboard 98% of the time
With saying that I have ridden behind a good friends Malibu 24MXZ and even though I am not a pro I really enjoy how big and Poppy his wake is compared to my 18 yr old Tige. But there is a big difference in price point of the two wakes My boat $12K his $120k.
I have 4 little ones (7, 5, 3,and 1) the two older ones are boys and already wakeboarding and jumping both HS and TS and they all love the boat but a $120k boat is not in the budget. Nor is a $50k boat.
That is the point of this post, at what price point do you have to be at to get somewhere close to the wake of a Malibu 24MXZ or something similar and poppy in another brand. I understand that this is a very opinionated and loaded question and am not really focusing on a certain brand. Just more a general idea
I see 2006 -2010 Malibu's, Moomba's, Tige, Master Crafts, etc.. in the $30k - $40k range and wonder how much bigger will the Wakeboard wakes be on those boats than my 1999 Tige 21V?
I have another friend I ride with every week who just bought a 2000 Malibu 23 LSV (it has the diamond hull so not the best hull for wakeboarding) and we weight it down with 750's in the rear and 1000#'s in the bow and his wake is just a touch bigger than my Tige but not something I would sell my boat for and spend $25k to get into.
I'm at the point where I would like to do a few things to my boat or upgrade but I am concerned that upgrading to a $30k boat will leave me saying "this wake isn't all that much better than what i have.
Sorry for the drawn out write up but i haven't had that many chances to be on other boats and see what other wakes are other than the really new 24 MXZ or the 2000 Malibu.
Thanks in advance.
