Absolutely when the water is real rough or even crossing some big rollers. My IPOD doesn't skip though.

yea no one i normally ride with uses a cd player anymore. back when we still did it would always skip, especially when doing double ups or turning around. its way easier to load all of your music into one mp3 player and have everything whithin the palm of your hand.

Yea, all the time. Thats why I have the Sony deck with a gig of RAM on the faceplate for MP3 files, plus an Ipod/MP3 input. We'll never deal with CDs again.

If you can spring for it some kind of mp3 adapter is the way to go. Or you can install the deck and an EQ and plug the mp3 player right into the EQ with a cable. You'll be frustrated when the cd player skips and spits the cd out. I used to have a changer and sometimes the whole cartridge would pop out. SUCKED!!

How about this....keep the factory am/fm cassette like my boat has. Then use the mp3 player along with an fm broadcaster thingie... like the Griffin AirTrip. A little thing that will let you tune your radio to an empty station and your mp3 player will broadcast over like a 30 ft area.

the fm broadcaster things are total crap. (I would know- i bought one for $70 and the sound quality is horrible, although I still use it if i'm out of range on car trips of my radio station because I don't have an aux line in) If you have a cassette player, you can get an adapter that has a cassette with a wire coming out the back that you hook directly into your mp3/cd player. I don't know if they make them any more, though.

The tape adapter will work far better than an FM transmitter. I think sometimes my AM Braves game broadcasts skip but Skip Caray is getting old. He may just be repeating himself.

I have a sony 10 disc changer and that will not skip, even while playing mp3 disks hitting double ups. The head unit skips all the time. If you throw them just right you can get them to skip on the water

I just installed a new pioneer deck so i could use the irock wireless waterproof remotes . We went out yesterday , and the water was RUFF . No skips on the mp3 cd we was listening to . We also have the ipod / mp3 connector , but with the irock remote , i can control volume plus track if we are listening to the cd , and the remote works up to 100' away .

My cd changer skips when I hit rough water. That's why ipods are so great but....does anyone notice a difference in the sound quality between mp3/aac and a cd?

Ripping a CD is supposed to be a 3% loss in quality. burn an MP3, slightly less. So if you rip it, then reburn it, then rip it again, then reburn it again, that would make for a lousy copy of the song. Download it from Kazaa or Limewire & you have no idea how many times it's been ripped & burned before you got it, not to mention what bit rate it was ripped at.
