i want to cover the inside of my engine cover with some type of sound dampening material like dynomat or hushmat to lower the noise. has anyone done this before and could i use the dynomat hoodliner used for engine hood so it can resist the heat, or do i need something specific for marine use.

Erik. Are you sure the noise is a normal one? Unless your exhaust is silent it should over ride any noise the engine makes in the compartment.

I used dynamat underhood liner on my centurion, worked nicely and easily.

the exhaust does cover most of the noise but i have a 93 sea ray and i have added 4 speakers and i want to lower as much noise from the 350 merc i have as an engine so we can hear the stereo better. its not much noise but i figure the more noise i can dampen the better

Erik, a really common source for noise is an open air passage. Basically any space where you can have air travel is a place where sound can travel. Pay very close attention to the seal around the engine and any access openings. Sometimes a few pieces of tape can make a difference that you notice.

the is a hole underneath the passenger seat that leads to the bilge pump but i have a cover for it and it makes a great seal. i put that cover back and it reduces alot of noise. the engine cover has a liner on the bottom, it was bent in some place and i took it off and made it fit better but i havent had the boat running since i put the liner back on.
