Not in recent years, but it is not impossible. It is not the high end tricks that destroy you. By the time you are working mobes and big spins, you are skilled enough to dodge 99% of nasty falls. It is the brutal process of work through your basic inverts, Raleys and spins. It really helps to be made of rubber when learning your first 10-15 inverts. I'm 34 and I learned all of my basic inverts by the time I was 16. I couldn't imagine doing it now.

Back in the day when Gerry Nunn came on the scene I think he was 27-28 or so when he actually turned pro. That doesn't answer the question of when he actually started riding, just that he went "pro" late.
