Okay so let me preface this by saying I am a nautique guy through and through. I have grew up on them. Have owned a sport nautique, 03 SAN 210, 06 SAN 220 and finally we found a mint 2008 SAN 230. We got it out for the first time and decided to ride with just stock ballast so we could get used to the wake. With stock ballast and four people on the boat all we got was white wash on both sides of the wake. We tried anywhere from 21 mph to 23 mph and nothing helped. We moved everyone in the boat around to balance it out and still nothing but white wash. What gives? Anyone know how to fix this without adding 5k pounds and going 25 mph?

I owned an 08. You have to run faster than normal to clean it up. I never could run much more than 1500 lbs in extra weight before I had washing problems.

Here are a few pictures of one of our quasi-failed attempts to overweight the '08. Sigh.

What speed should we be running at? How much weight and where?

From what I hear, you need to run like 25+ to clear up the wake. We ended up just running about 40/60 weight front and rear over stock; however, we didn't like riding that fast, so we never added all that much weight.

I just rode a 2010 230 two weeks ago and it was pretty good. I think 2010 has a bigger belly tank than yours and you have to piggy back a mushroom sac under the floor to make up for it.

My buddy had stock full with 750 in the back corners and one of those sac's that fits under the front seats. I was at 70' and 23.5 and it was clean and big.

When I say clean though it did still have just a tiny bit of white wash on top but not enough to mess you up.

230 nautiques like midship weight. I run 750 in rear, arrow tank under floor, integrated sac under front seat. And 150 cube to adjust wake. Pretty clean @ 23.5 but you can forget 21-22. Biggest fallacy of the boat, other than, that it's a great boat, great surfer!

I think you have to ride at least 21 mph and then add at least 1000 or more then you will love it....Kind of a pain but a great boat. I think the hull is just too big for the weight of the boat. Stock ballast is only like 800 lbs.

The stock wake has 1-1.5" of white wash, but the wake is rock solid then. Just see it as a pointer of the end of the wake. I also came from divers Nautique's, but I like the stock wake of the 230 the best. Even board a lot without the rear tanks filled, just the belly tank.

Here's stock ballast, hydrogate pulled back, 2 people on the boat @ 23mph on an 2011 230. Pretty clean to me.
Just keep trying things till you have it right. Anything under 23mh - forget about it. Its a 23ft boat.
Sacked out we run 25mph.

Not trying to start a pissing contest. I have a 23LSV I can run stock ballast almost down to 18 mph and stay clean. The 230 is just super sensitive.

Chase - not talking about other boats - just about the SAN 230.

I'm sorry migs, just took it the wrong way. You said forget it, it's a 23ft boat, like 23ft boats couldn't get clean. You have one sharp 230 BTW.

I've ridden sacked out 230s slow without a problem. Last time I rode one I was at 75ft and 22.5-23 or so.

No worries at all Chase.

throw some lead up front and you can slow down (we have 2-100Lb blocks under the cockpit). Sacked out we run 22 going up river so its about 23-23.5 and the wake stays decently clean as long as people sit where they need to.

$100k boat should be clean!! IMO.

2014 I thought they were suppose to do some hull mods that helped clean up the 230 wake. Anyone know for sure?

With only the mid ballast full running at 23 mph the wake may clean up a bit but to be honest it's pretty dinky. I feel like I'm just flying across the wake. I've been boarding behind a sacked out malibu 247 for the last few months and I must have just got used to that wake. Not a ton of kick but it stays big and clean from 18 mph up. I will have to play around with the 230 some. We had a 220 that threw a nice big clean wake so I guess I was expecting something similar. That boat was sensitive side to side but still had a clean wake when balanced right.

I run 23.8 mph on my friends 08 230 @ 75ft and it may have what I call a little fluff on the peak but not wash. It doesn't really affect anything that I do at all. I actually get more tripped on the lip of my a24 even though its cleaner. he runs the piggy back system and mushroom plus about 400 lbs of lead and its pretty sweet. Its my favorite wake behind the G and A24. It helps to teach the driver to gave a little slight inside pressure on the wheel to which ever side you are on. You cant just throw anyone behind the wheel and get a clean wake like on a Malibu axis or old xstar, but its pretty awesome when right.

when sacked out, the 230 wake is mackin, so smooth & tons of upward pop.

Yea I ride at 24.5 so I never had a problem behind the 230 My brother however rides at 22 and we always pretty munched dumped the rear tanks for him.

On a side note how did you all like the 220? Any comments on that? That's the only boat I have never been behind and keeps popping up on my radar. Love the pre 07 and the redone 210, the 230 was ok for me, sv211 wasn't much wake machine, but as 3event boat it was awesome, 226 layout just isn't for me. Current boat is 2000 XStar with 3k.

Honestly I have ridden the old 210, new 210, 220, and 230 and the old 210 wake is still my favorite. The 220 is second. The 220 gets a bad rep because it's a bit sensitive side to side but that wake would launch me.

I ride 22.3 behind a '12 230. Stock ballast plus 1500lbs extra and 400 lbs of lead. Wake is clean every time. I highly recommend the use of lead because the 230 is so sensitive side to side

We have a 07' 236 and the wake is clean at 22-25mph. My bro fills the boat with stock plus 750's in each rear tank and we have two rock bags in the nose at 240 lbs and one more rock bag at 120lbs in the midship. He rides around 24.5-25mph. I like to ride with just stock ballast and the rock bags at 22.5. Wake is super clean at both speeds. This is with two people in the boat. The more people you have the more nose weight it needs. We have found that our boat loves the weight up front. It really cleans up the wake. The surf wake is awesome as well. Hope that helps. Enjoy the water.

Alright, im gonna elaborate on what I said earlier about my 230. I have an '08 230 and yes the boat is very sensitive side to side but once you get the people in your boat sitting where you need them to, you can make that work. Yesterday I went out and decided I would experiment with ballast a little bit and I ended up tih stock rear tanks full, belly tank full, and under-seat bow sac half full with my two blocks of lead under the cockpit on either side. The wake was beautiful. The transitions were longer than usual and the lip was just as poppy. I only broke through threw wake one time and the wake stayed perfectly clean the whole time. One thing that happens with the 230 that you kind of just have to deal with is that the wake will only be clean on the side that you're on. The other side will be washed out and you will land in a little bit of wash but it isn't a big deal because the side of the wake that you hit will be clean.

On another note, the 230 wave might be one of the best in the business, I only run stock starboard tank and a 400 on top and I get a wave with a barrel in the back.

Is your hydro gate pulled back? If the gate is down the wake won't ever clean up and the wake is very disappointing with the gate down.

On mine if we are not wanting to go big air and have 4 in the boat, I have everyone set in the back with stern tanks filled full, and belly 1/4 - 1/2 full and adjust the speed accordingly.

When we wanna go big air, fill the belly tank full, arrow sack in belly full (650lbs), and bow sack under the seats full (650lbs), and fill stern bags to 550-600 each. And cruise about 25mph. If boat begins to porpoise move one person at a time to the bow until it stops..

I have an '08 230 and typically run stock ballast with a small crew, the wake stays clean down to about 21 with this setup. When you add weight and people, need to ride a little faster, but, high 21's and 22 no problem at all on my 230 and my buddy's '08 230.

What prop is on your boat? Hydrogate working properly?

Yeah after playing around with it a bit we found the best setup for us is mid ballast full, 750 sac up front and rear tanks empty. We ride around 21.5-22 and it's nice for us. I think adding that front weight was the key.
