Reproping an 06 vlx

Looking for better hole shot when the boat is weighted down anyone know the best prop for this boat???

there is some info on www.themalibucrew.com about this prop.I just ordered mine,...can,t wait to feel the difference

I would suggest the Acme 857. If you want to get the best hole shot and you don't need ski or foot top end speed go with the Acme 1235. We are running it on our 2005 VLX and it is awesome. Both Wakeboarding and Wakesurfing are much improved. Give us a call if you have any questions. 1-866-925-3743

Spencer what prop you runinng that improved your wakeboard & wakesurfing? The 857 or the 1235?

IS the 1235, Acme's new prop? If so I heard this was the one they don't have pitch blocks for yet. You bend it, you'll have to have a good prop guy to fix it.

Yep, the 1235 is the new wake-specific prop. Acme said they won't have pitch blocks for it for 6 months.

Dave,
Go knock on wood. You really don't want to find out the hard way, so I'll tell you. This is what the prop guys have to buy in order to fix your prop the right way. They also come in handy to re-pitch a prop, I just had my 537 re pitched an inch while being repaired and it has made a huge difference in getting the weighted down tank out of the hole

Too late to knock on wood. I actually just jacked my first prop this weekend. I guess I'll be finding out the hard way! :-)

We are using the Acme 1235. We actually bent it but it was minor so I used a pair of piles and a rubber hammer to make it right. I figure I will put another one on when we do the winterization this winter. I keep the Acme 537 as our backup in our weekend saver kit just in case we put it in the dirt or someone really wants to ski.

OJ XMP 14.25 x 14 works quite well--2005 VLX with 3000lbs--wake is sick!

So which is better...the OJ or the Acme?

I hear about half using one and the other half using the other. Do you guys notice better gas mileage with these props?

I know it's a differant boat but the prop is the same (sans the reverse rotation). I put a new 1234 14.25 X 14.5 on my 211. It looks like a tug boat prop. I run an additional 900lbs over stock and 5 adults (a couple are heavyweights, you know who you are HA!) in the boat. Tha tprop pulls like there's only the driver with no weight added. Unbelievable. And I only lost 2mph on the top end. I know atleast one oth Malibu owner that's looking at it for his 07.

I have used both the OJ and the Acme. I liked both props and in my opinion they really didn’t have that much difference if any. The OJ is now scrap metal, but it was a little less aggressive. Our gas mileage is way worse. We run very high RPM's so cruising around the lake is expensive, but that is the cost of huge wakes and surfing waist high.

On boats from 2005 and up, I would say the majority are running Acme. I have used both and prefer the Acme in every aspect

Hey Troy -

Did you have your repair shop change the cup at all when you lowered the pitch? How much weight are you running? How big a difference is it?

I've got a 537 getting repaired right now and on Acme's recommendation, I told the shop to bring the pitch down an inch and take .040 of cup out - this would bring the pitch to 15 and the cup to .065.

The gas mileage is worse when we are running around the lake. At wakeboarding speed we are good but with as much weight as we usually run it is still not desirable.

David, I had the pitch brought down an inch, it added about 400 RMP (better hole shot) We did not discuss the cup. I don't if you you can do them independently or if you change 1 you also channge the other.

I run the VLX with stock (1250 lbs) plus an additional 750lbs and the wedge. It used to take the 537 a while at full throttle to plane out, now it planes out pretty quick at 3/4 throttle.

My logic was, if I don't like the changes to the prop, I would buy a new one (1235) and keep the old one as a spare. So far I'm loving the repaired prop

My thoughts exactly Troy. I should have my new and improved 537 mid-week next week, so I'll post on the results.

Last minute I changed the cup to .070 instead of .065 for fear of slippage.

I switched to the 1235 and ran it this whole season! It's worth every penny, huge improvement over the 537!

Out of the hole is like you're running stock ballast, we run 2800-3000lbs. (extra 500-600 in each trunk, extra 400+ in the nose, plus full stock MLS).

It turns a lot better, much less high siding in a tight turn. I don't see higher RPMs at all, but we lost a few MPH off of the top side that we never have used anyway. So, it's a win win from my perspective
