Basta lifts kick a$$. check out http://www.gobasta.com or http://www.breakwaterski.com
They are all hydrolic lifts. Super nice and very low maintance. You don't even need power on your dock.

For my latest waste of time check out http://tranquilbase.com

I have installed the Summit. Very good lift and easy to work with. Unless something better comes along, I'll have one when my lake is finished.

A lot of folks at my dock use Basta. I got a Sunstream and I love it. Check out http://www.sunlift.com

The Sunstream lifts have a couple of nice features that I preferred over the Basta:

- Rubber/vinyl ribbed bunks that are soft and won't scuff or mark your gelocat. The won't get dirty or trap any grit to hurt your hull and never need to be replaced.

- All aluminum is lightweight and never rusts. Always looks shiny new. (I think Basta now has an Aluminum option.)

- Kewl underwater lighting option lights up your slip at night so you can find your spot at the dock or just put a glow around your boat.

Both Basta and Sunstream have the handy remote control option, which is so easy to use. Folks are always amazed that I can get on and off the water so fast. No tying up the boat and no waiting around and jumping in and out of the boat for a water powered lift.

What are some average prices for a new one? most of the sites do not have prices.

The powered hydraulic lifts are not cheap. You should expect to pay $1K per 1,000 pounds that your boat weighs with gas, ballast, people, etc. In other words, if you get a 6,000lb lift it will probably be around $6K. Don't get a 3,000lb lift just because your dry weight is listed as 3,000lb in the owners manual, remember that you will be standing in the boat with your friends and you will have gas, gear, and ballast.

They are worth every cent! Think about the actual cost ratio of the lift compared to the overall cost of the boat. Not to mention the benefits of the boat not sitting in the water getting all nasty and some boats fiberglass will even bubble or blister after long periods of sitting in the water. That is only the beginning. You also have the added security that the boat is not going to break the moorings and or be bashed on your dock during a storm. In my opinion it is a small price to pay.

FYI the BASTA lifts use to be NYMAN. Nyman was the first to invent the temporary, portable lift. Also a huge benefit of the Basta lift over the sun stream lift is they only use Aluminum cylinders for there hydraulic piston. Also there are only one piston vs 2 like the sun stream. It does not take much physics knowledge to understand that means the basta lift is using more applied levers for lifting and the best is that you have one less part to break. That is all just my 10 cents.

Hey Derek,
Make sure you get a bunch of price quotes. I liked the Sunstream, but it was $2K more than the Basta.
Also, I wanted a 5,000 lb lift and Sunstream only has 4k and 6k models so Basta was right for me.
Both hydraulic lifts are sweet.. all aluminum/stainless parts, battery powered with solar panel trickle charge, the remote control, etc.
But like Jay said, expect to pay at least $1K per 1,000 lbs plus labor for the install.

Can you use an overhead lift? Liek one used in a boat house? I had mine custom made for $1400 , 5000lb, it's slow but works great.
