I lived there for 3 years...

Pros: You live on vacation 24/7 and expect everyone at your house every summer weekend for BBQ

Cons: Hellacious commute if you have to go work in the Bay Area

Pros: Holiday Lighted Boat Parade

Cons: Neighbors give you crap for having parties that are too mellow

Pros: Waking up at 7:45am for an 8:00am launch

Cons: Hauling gas to the dock

Discovery Bay...a drinking town with a small boating problem!

Commute and being out in the middle of nowhere is what killed it for me unfortunately, although working towards making it a weekend residence soon hopefully!

It is not for everyone...best advise I was given was to rent for at least a full year in all seasons to make sure that the lifestyle is for you.

A Big Con for me is all the water hyacinth. The state of CA doesn't seem to be doing squat about the mass amounts of this crap. After a while you get sick of dealing with it.
Others may think its not a sucha big deal, but to me it royally sucks. I just use it for the fact that it has water in it and none of our lakes do.

^^ I have family friends that are up in Holt and I'm constantly seeing Facebook posts about all the water hyacinth problems. It definitely seems to be quite the pain this year. Completely choking off some parts of the delta. Will be interesting to see if the broke government will do anything about it.

That usually only happens in January/Feb. This year started in November which does suck.

ITs fine really. Just an inconvenience at the start. But after you ride 3-4 times down the channel they move to the sides from the wake of the boat.
This was the first year I had to deal with it in November though which was weird.

This was last weekend in the sloughs around the slalom course headed to vics. So you can drive slowly around it. Vics looked like this too when we got there, so we sacked up. drove up & down one time with no rider - then it parted ways. Then we were good to go the rest of the day.

Hyacinth is finally getting the attention of enough people that we may see some more money spent controlling it but its definitely a CON

Stockton has it the worst...some places in the delta have none.

The commute is a major con. I live in oakley and disco is atleast 25-30 past me. It doesnt seem that far on a map but from brentwood/oakley to disco always feels like a long way! If im ever rich and dont commute to sf ill gladly move there. Its a beautiful area.
