Must be a very reliable motor. Perhaps a black scorpion or gt-40? No skiing.

So you need to be under 15K, boat has to have a GT-40 PCM or Black Scorpion Merc. Your pretty limited at that point. I'd say your best bet is looking for a open bow version of what you have now. Your pretty much limiting yourself to Nautique. The black scorpion was an option in just about any boat that used mecruiser and their aren't very many out there.

Any particular reason for that? I've had an indmar and a merc and more small crap has gone wrong on the merc. My indmar was easier to change impellers on the fly etc. The merc's eat iac's, plugs, caps are crap, etc.

Not trying to change your mind just curious as to why.

97 sport Natique or 98 Wakesetter would be darn close to $15K. Both have awesome wakes and have those engines.

Supra SunSport may be a good option. I sold my 97 at the end of last year for 13k. It had a GT40 with all of the critical upgrades like ballast system and perfectpass. For a direct drive they have tons of room for ballast and people and put out a pretty good wake.

When did Malibu go to Indmar? I know they did use mercruiser at a point but I believe a 98 would have an indmar. Only ones I saw was a few years back when we were looking at older boats. I remember seeing a few early to mid 90's echelons with mercs. But they were all the mags and MPI's. Never saw one with a Black Scorpion.

I'm with William. I have owned 2 merc inboards and while one was OK, the other was he!!. Went thru 3 water pumps a season and ran when it wanted to. I wouldn't back away from a clean boat with a merc., but I sure wouldn't be searching one out either.

We were asking $16k for our 1995 Super Sport Nautique - tower, ballast, audio, prop, new interior, dual axle trailer and it had a GT-40 engine.

...ended up selling it to my brother for less than asking, but just and FYI on prices out there.

If you can find a Hydrodyne Grand sport it is a solid open bow boat that throws a good wakeboard wake and should have the GT40.

c'mon man you just cursed me! Haven't changed out the pump. I will say that the impeller is a pita to change on the water compared to what I was used to. The mercs have a few problem areas that can be fixed easily with avoiding their parts. Again I have had ZERO large issues just nickel and dime crap. The starter was huge pita problem but put a larger well built unit in after the 3rd one in a season and haven't had a prob since (knock on wood)

You can find a '97-'00 Malibu V-drive in that price range. Great wakes.

Considering the boat is at Boulder Boats, I'd imagine they bought multiple URL's that all point to one main site (which happens to have the Nautique in the banner).
