iPhone and Sprint - Non-Wakeboarding Discussion

Quick question for those with iPhones on the Sprint network. I understand that you can not surf and talk at the same time. Do you find this to be an issue or just a minor annoyance?

I am looking at jumping ship from AT&T and this is my only concern. Even with that, pricing is much better with Sprint.

Thoughts?

Although I am not on Sprint - this is the same problem with Verizon. For me, and I spend 5000+ minutes a month on my phone, it is not a huge issue. Most of the time I am driving (so I can't surf) or I am at home (wifi works while on the phone) so it isn't an issue. Every once in a while I am on a call with one of my employees and I want to look something up while I am walking to a meeting but honestly not that big of deal. Certainly not enough to justify the AT&T service

I don't have an iPhone but do have an HTC Evo. I've been with Sprint for 10 years now and Phat is spot on about the talking and surfing. I usually don't do both and when I do, I have my wifi antenna on. That usually solves it when you want to talk and surf at the same time.

You may miss it at first, but the pros vs cons of sprint vs at&t should justify learning to deal with it imo

Coming from Att to Sprint was the worst thing we did.
The customer service is horrible, the service to price is out of wack.
And the reception atleast in our area sucks ass.

Not being able to do both voice and data via the cell network at the same time as kept me from changing carrier. I don't have an iPhone but I use both data and voice at the same a lot. You might be surprised with the scenario's it enables:
-- Talking to customer service rep and looking up things on line, getting emails related to the conversation
-- Talking to the wife and giving her directions at the same time (using voice and maps (data)
-- Conf calls for work while getting and sending emails
-- Tethering an other device (laptop, tablet...) and being able to get incoming calls (or make out going ones)

All depends on how you use the device and services. I like to use both, I could live without both but would not like it since I'm used to it now.

Where I'm from the main pro is service. Verizon and At&t have little to no service outside of bigger cities.

complete opposite of my experience. at&t blows: coverage, plans & customer service. sprint on the other hand has been super awesome; i rarely lose calls, they have great plans (unlimited everything for $100 w/ no data cap) and their customer service has been top notch.

It's crazy the different perception of the different carriers across the nation. My experience with AT&T is lightyears better than past experience with Sprint. I've never been on Verizon, mainly because AT&T has never given me a reason to leave. Seems like this is the exact opposite of what most of you experience in California.

yeah, it all depends on where you are. i've been to many places in the u.s. and have had really good luck w/ sprint, though coverage sucked in south dakota. but at&t kicked ass there! on the west coast, (sf, la, oc, sd, seattle, portland, vegas, phx), in my experience, sprint rules over at&t. at the delta, at&t i believe is better, but sprint out there isn't that bad.

I'd go with Verizon with their 4G service. It's the fastest and allows surf and talk at the same time. Their network is the best in most places as well. If you want the iphone, though, you'd have to wait till the iphone5 to use 4g service.

X2. At one time Sprint was horrible with customer service but that was 4+ years ago. Since Dan Hesse, Sprint has done much, much better. $.02
