LA, Las Vegas trip help

Hi guys,

A friend and I are doing a week long trip from New Zealand to LA, Las Vegas in the start of April.

We have done plenty of reading etc on the best things to do etc, but its hard to know what will be good at not. We are both keen wakeboarders, but hope to hire some motorbikes and spend a few days riding.

We are going to an NBA game day one, and then arent 100% on what we will do from there.

Anyone got any good suggestions of places to go and see etc.

At this stage we will just do a few cliche tourist things in LA, ie the Hollywood sign etc, then in Vegas the casinos etc. We are hoping to ride to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon then do Death Valley as well.

Any other suggestions and what works well accommodation wise?

Southern California is lame in my opinion but it depends on what you're into. The area you're talking about is very busy and congested. You could eat up hours just trying to get to your destination. But if you want ocean and beaches, SoCal is the spot.

If you want to see the Hoover dam, I would recommend two things. If you fly into Phoenix, rent a car, and do the drive to Vegas the scenery is amazing, and you pass over Hoover damn on the way, just about 30 minutes outside of vegas.

The other option is helicopter. My wife and I did a copter ride from Vegas airport out over the Hoover damn, Grand Canyon / Horseshoe Bend, and that was really cool.
