How do you deal with ankle problems. I hurt my ankle a few weeks ago tumbling and even now it hurts to wakeboard because of my ankles. Is there anything I can do?

Did you sprain it? If it's still swollen, I'd ice it a few times a day, take anti-inflammatory drugs, and keep a compress on it (ace bandage or sports tape.) The compress will give it some extra support.

For boarding, you might also want to try changing the angle of your bindings; the current position of them might be putting pressure on your ankle where they normally wouldn't.

If it's been a few weeks and it is still hurting though? If it's badly, you may want to go check out a doctor in case there is more serious ligament damage in there.

I've had ankle problems for many years. I suggest buying stiff bindings. I personally like the Melissa boots by Liquid Force.

Give your ankle a rest, ice it for 10 minutes every 10 minutes and elevate above your heart to bring the swelling down. If you notice that you start spraining your ankle while doing regular activities (such as walking down the street) you may want to consult a doctor since this is a sign that your ligaments might need to be tightened (which I had done on my right ankle 3 years ago)

I also wrap my ankle with sports tape every time I ride. Ask someone that might know how (gymnastics coaches, physiotherapists, kinesiologist and orthopedic doctors might be able to help you).

Do ankle exercises... standing on your toes helps, also practice being on a wobble board in front of a wall or counter. Doing weights with your ankle once its almost fully recovered also helps. All of this should be done once there is no more swelling.

Hope this helps!

What kind of bindings do you have? My best friend had some ankle problems too and she preferred riding men's bindings because they are taller than women's bindings. She said that it helped to support her ankle more.

I have the 08 Amber Wing bindings..... However my ankle problems started when I landed wrong out of a back tuck in gymnastics class. I think the problem was that I never laid off of it, but maybe it healed itself up now! I'm just glad. My bindings do have that ankle cushion support..I felt it!

:-)
